TJX’s failure to secure Wi-Fi could cost $1B

If you're using wireless and concerned about security, or if you do business with any of the companies mentioned, you'll be glad you read This. I thought it was very educational.

I'm still waiting for good Linux support of WPA.
Many of the 'solutions' to wifi problems in Linux (whichever distro)
have been "try connecting without encryption, or with WEP".

More specifically the Network Wizard in Puppy 2.15 displays
the encryption key. I wonder if this is safe?

Pupshock, Puppy started out as a single-user OS that runs from a live CD. If only one person will be using the OS then why hide anything from him? Puppy is so responsive to tinkering that it has been adapted for many purposes. One of these is multiple user accounts. Other versions of Linux might be better suited for that job.

I prefer it. That way I can look up what my encryption key is, in case I have to hook up something else.

The only real risk is people looking over your shoulder.

Assuming one is using the same browser, then:
WinXP-connected with WPA, versus
Linux(eg Puppy)-connected with WEP.
Which is a more secure choice?

The browser doesn't matter. If you read the article, WEP is broken. WPA is the encryption to use.
