No audio Firefox - apulse still missing

#1 Post by Rolandradio »

I have installed different versions of Apulse but Firefox 57.0 still sas:

To play audio, you may need to install the required PulseAudio software,

Puppy Slacko 5,7
Kernal 3.4.82

Icore i5 4570
Chipset H81
Realtek audio onboard ALC892
32 bit software

@ Rolandradio:-

If you follow xenial's link, you'll see that you need to tell Firefox to use apulse when it fires up, i.e.:-

Code: Select all

Exec=apulse /path/to/firefox
Apulse lets Puppy carry on as normal with ALSA, while fooling Firefox into thinking that PulseAudio is installed on your system.....

The xenial link is a bit too difficult too understand.
Is apulse-0.1.9 pulseaudio emulation for alsa the right one ?

I have 32bit version of latest release 0.1.13 here:-
http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks/apulse-0 ... 686-wz.pet
download and click on it to install

However, you will encounter other problems in Slacko 5.7 if trying to use a very recent Firefox. As mentioned in your other thread, there will be symbol errors due to some libraries being too old and incompatible. I have not tried to track down the exact problem. I just use latest Palemoon or stick with older Firefox.

the older computer HP 8000 elite (intel core 2 ) chipset ICH10 has no problems with apulse.
Same version of Slacko 5.7 and Kernal and firefox quantum 57.0
And normal firefox start via icon.
Audio chip is Realtek ALC261
installed
apulse-0.1.9 pulseaudio emulation for alsa
Working ok

New computer Icore i5 4570 Chipset H81
This computer has the Realtek audio ALC892
Alsa Driver problem ?

I installed apulse release 0.1.13 but firefox still says required pulse audio needed.

You will need to make sure you are launching firefox with the apulse command at the front as various posts above have explained. If you are doing this it will work.

It may be that the older apulse just overwrites pulseaudio in which case it may be easier to use for firefox, but it creates problems for other programs this way. If it is easier and does everything you want, you could use the older apulse, but using the latest one in the correct way only requires a simple step or two.

By the way, have you not considered using a newer Puppy than Slacko 5.7 especially on the newer computer? It would make more sense and make things easier for you.
