Hallo again, step.

Y'know, they say the Almighty "works in mysterious ways", don't they?

For some odd reason, neither Zoom nor Skype have been behaving themselves in Bionicpup64 for the last few releases.

Zoom just would not hold its audio settings, and point-blank refused to record a session. Every time I tried the latter, it kept pointing me to the settings dialog.....where everything was as it should be.

Skype, for the last 3 releases, simply wouldn't fire-up. At all.

But somebody up above has apparently taken pity on Uncle Mike! The newest version of Skype fired-up without a single complaint, and your newest version of Zoom is now holding audio settings, and recording properly, with no hint of any sort of "issue".

(Must be Sod's law. Go figure.)

Xenialpup64, on the other hand, has been consistently running both of 'em without any problems, all the way through.....where I've simply 'upgraded' Zoom by the method I outlined above. Never has given any trouble.

Come the start of next month, Zoom will probably quit working in both of them..! We shall see.....

Hi Folks,

I am using Fatdog 810 downloaded last March, 2020.
I've used it for ZOOM meetings ever since.

I was halted from using zoom in my monthly meetings tonight.
Zoom said I must update to 5.0.
Tonight, I downloaded new Zoom from this thread's first post.
Download link for version 5.0.413237.0524
FatDog is asking me for a 'root password'. I've never used a password with root before. Confused...

Hi Sky, you are almost there. Judging from the screenshot, I guess you downloaded the SFS and clicked the Zoom icon to start the program. Instead you should _load_ the new SFS then start Zoom from the system menu Network category.
To get the SFS loaded you have two options.
Easy option: temporary load (you will have to repeat after each reboot): right click the downloaded icon and select "Load SFS".

Other option (load once forever): use the System SFS Loader in Fatdog Control Panel > System, Before you load the new SFS make sure to unload the old one, if it's listed in the right column of the System SFS Loader window. The new SFS must be located in the correct directory before System SFS Loader can find it. Which directory is shown at the top of the window, between the two columns. Restart SFS loader after you move the new SFS to its correct location.
Good luck

edit: I noticed something unusual in the screenshot. SeaMonkey is downloading to a temporary directory, weird. It should download to /home/spot/Downloads by default. Did you change your SM configuration?

Hi step,
What is 'SM' configuration?

SeaMonkey configuration. I mean the Preferences dialog under the Edit menu of SeaMonkey browser.

Hello step,

You asked:

No, I changed nothing in SeaMonkey preferences.

Here is what I have done this morning...
I removed the old ZOOM .sfs by using Gslapt Package Manager.
I downloaded the 5.0 update using your link as listed in this thread's first post.
Download link for version 5.0.413237.0524

The download process is still asking me for a root password. See screenshot below.

What I am suppose to do with the File Mounter request for a root password?

Thank you,

Sky

Keep it there, don't do anything for now.

Hmm, unfortunately that hijacked Zoom from your computer. I can help you fix it and get back to your business with Zoom 5.0. I will send you a PM with instructions in a few minutes.

Hi,
My way, BionicPup64

Download last version

https://zoom.us/download?os=linux
(debian / 64 bits / version 8.0)
zoom_amd64.deb

extract, for example in /root/
rename folder as zoom
start simply, open terminal in folder and follow that

Code: Select all

root# pwd
/zoom
root# env LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/zoom/opt/zoom/ ./opt/zoom/zoom
I can't try any harder I'm not registered.

Regard.
[/code]

@step I don't have a zoom account but if you can try it out of curiosity, I don't want to pollute your discussion.

@Fabrice, no worries, I just didn't want Sky to get sidetracked. She has inadvertently messed up her system, and I'm in the middle of trying to get her out of the sands. Thank you.

Hi Step,
I intentionally removed the ZOOM.
I wanted to set to zero and start fresh.
I do this with other Puppies when the issue becomes too complicated.
I'm assuming ZOOM can be re-instated into FatDog with no harm done?

Hello step,

I received your private email with instructions 1 - 7 to re-instate ZOOM with update 5.0.

Instructions 1 - 4.1 executed without issue.
Instruction 4.2 failed.
Still optimistic. :)
