Tazpuppy54--beta(only booting to commandline)

#1141 Post by gabtech »

HI people,

I've just downloaded tazpuppy-5.0-beta-54.iso - frugally installed it on my compaq 6710B laptop where I house a collection of puppies and dogs. It boots fine but does no go to desktop. I have booted with both tux login and root login but still no X, only commandline.

@gabtech

What's the specs of your laptop?

Could you please send me the xorg.conf file (located at /etc/X11) of other puppies which works on your laptop?

Also when you boot tazpuppy, did you create savefile upon shutdown? If yes; then boot other puppy, mount the savefile of tazpuppy, get the Xorg.0.log file (located at /var/log) and Device.conf file (located at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d) then send it here.

@gabtech

Thanks for the files that you sent to me

May I see the Xorg.0.log (located at /var/log) and xerrs.log (located at /tmp) of your tahrpup

Also run "busybox lspci" on terminal of your tahrpup and post the terminal output here

If Xorg.0.log file was missing on TazPuppy kindly do the following:
1. Boot TazPuppy with Savefile loaded.
2. If you reached terminal login then logged in as root.
3. Type this on command line

Code: Select all

cp -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log /root/Xorg.0.log
4. Now restart the computer and boot other puppy
5. Mount the tazpuppy savefile and get the Xorg.0.log at /root folder from the save file
6. Upload the Xorg.0.log on this thread

Hi mistfire,

I downloaded two flavors of slitaz to test - I used to have slitaz 2 running on one of my computers. The first one I tested was slitaz4-firefox which booted alright upto desktop, but the desktop was blank. I then removed it and tried slitaz3-vesa which booted alright with a working desktop.

@gabtech slitaz uses older xorg driver while TazPuppy uses newer xorg. Old xorg server lack of glamor acceleration. I finally found the root problems on TazPuppy why it failed to start X on other gpu devices. I downgraded xorg-server one step backward but retains glamor acceleration to match the supported xorg server version of xorg drivers.

Hi mistfire,

Just downloaded the new tazpup iso, booted it and currently using it to post to the forum. The task toolbar is not showing below the desktop. I can only see a flashing bar.

Working ok here on HP core2 laptop, running through ISObooter.
WiFi connection is easy with Network > Wi-Fi connection.
To find out how to adjust the screen brightness was more difficult. I got to use the terminal: 'set-backlight 75 intel_backlight'
Both Midori and the TazWeb Browser are working, posting from the latter.
Two icons for the wlan0 Network connection show up in the notification area bottom right, one has a 'one way' sign superimposed.
Sound tested ok with ALSA sound Wizard.
So far so good, thanks.

@gabtech
Did you boot TazPuppy on pristine state? May I see the screenshot of your TazPuppy?

@proebler
Setting screen brightness was on the TazPanel.

@proebler

When you logged in as non-root user

Click user icon on TazPanel (colored green, around upper right corner). It will prompt you logged in as root

Username: root
Password: root

When logged in, the user icon will became slitaz icon.

The TazPanel is now on root mode

@gabtech

That's weird that lxpanel crash on your computer while on @proebler's computer doesn't.

Do the following:

1. Boot tazpuppy in pristine state
2. Logged in as root
3. Click Documents from Desktop and go to /usr/bin
4. Right click Xorg and open with geany
5. Press CTRL + H or Click Edit>Replace from menu bar

Find: "$@"
Replace with: "$@" 2>/root/xerrs.log

6. Click "Replace" twice
7. Click Save
8. Press CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE to restart Xorg
9. Logged in as tux
10. Wait for at least a minute after logged in
11. Click Documents from Desktop and go to /root
12. Get xerrs.log file and save on your storage device

13. Boot other puppy and send the xerrs.log that you saved from storage device here
