No it is not available for Linux.

I guess you could use the Windows version on a computer running Windows.

Could try to run the Windows version in Wine.

Try installing this deb package.
https://launchpad.net/~samoilov-lex/+ar ... _amd64.deb

It will put a icon in menu->Utility->Android file transfer to run it.

OK, have downloaded this Transfer protocol, all seems to have gone well, connected phone by USB, can see the phone and sd card but when I fire up MTP there is no indication that its running or indications on how to interact with it.

As has been commented elsewhere - strange there is not a Linux file transfer facility for a phone developed in Linux from another Linux machine. Anyway, Many thanks for all your help and guidance.

I'll keep looking.

@Bigpup, I've been an exclusively Puppy user for some years now, I'll have to borrow a Windoze machine from a friend who will take the p*** out of me - the things we do for the Puppy!

I've got a broad back I can take it!

I have just noticed that the icon (little cardboard box) next to the files that I have downloaded to transfer to the phone are all much darker than other files where the icon is lighter.

Did you install the program by left click on the deb package?

I tried it with my phone and when I start Android File Transfer program I get this window.

I agree they do not give you any info on how to use this program.

I figured this out.
What is showing is what is on the phone.
Click on a listed item to highlight it.
These are directories in the phones storage.
Double click on it to open.
Right click on a item to get a right click option menu.

For the stuff across the top.
Highlight a listed directory.
Then you can select a option to do to it from the list on top of window.

How did you start the programme? I have unpacked it into usr/bin, can open most of the files, just not obvious how to start.

deb packages will work just like pet packages to install a program.

Do not unpack the deb package.
Download it to some location.
Navigate in Rox file manager to this location.
Just left click on the deb package and it will install the program.
You will now find a entry in menu->Utility->Android File Transfer
Click on that to run the program.

Do have the phone connected, before you start the program. It looks for the phone, before bringing up the program window.

I hate to admit it but I've dug out an old Vista machine which is working with my phone, it just takes forever to do anything. Haven't yet plucked up the courage to put the new operating system on the phone yet tho!

LeithR:

Take heart mate.
My Moto E 4 hates connecting to Puppy...various ones.

Windows 7 just seems to work better on it.

Just the way it is.

Cheers....Chris.

When I wanted to copy files from my smartphone to my computer, I used to attempt that with a USB cable. When I could get MTP or some other connection established, I would usually get IO errors with the SD card sometime into the copying process.

I have since switched to using Samba on my computer and use a file manager on my smartphone to transfer files using wifi.
I find this setup to be more convenient and reliable thus far.
