As an alternative to Abiword + Gnumeric, perhaps try mavrothal's 'light' versions of OpenOffice, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 930#671930. You'll find them on Puppus Dogfellow's repo, https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing
80MB. Why do they call it "light"

For years now I've been using Softmaker FreeOffice as a portable install on my harddrive, no ram required I'll do a write-up on it in Post #2. You have to supply an email address when you download, its up to you whether you use your primary email. Comes with 31 languages. Will work with and save to .doc perfectly. It was a little tricky to find the menu for that but setting the default file save to .doc will open up the old save menu.

I notice that /lib/keymaps/it.gz is already included in Quirky7. Was that version incompatible with the /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/pc/it from Precise? I'm making up a .pet for the missing languages, there are 6, and wondering if I need to include the .gz's as well.

Good one! I see you used cups-1.3.11, cups-1.4.8 has always been my favourite. The only problem I have had is that libcups.so.2 is required by many Apps and the older versions aren't acceptable to the newer Apps. I put libcups.so.2 -1.7.5 in both A32 and A64 but it will have been overridden by cups-1.3.11. Because of that I worked up a modified version of cupz-1.4.8-jrb.04.pet which depends on libcups-1.4.8.so.2 instead. If I had been able to compile a working version I would have made a 64bit version as well but there was one filter I couldn't get to work. :(

No. Only /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/pc/it from precise is required.

I just installed http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... 1-i686.pet along with libenchant and libgtkspell from tahr-6.0.5 and it started right up. I can upload and post the two dependencies if you don't have them.

Edit: My dogs are getting impatient for me to take them skiing. Will be back in a couple of hours.

Thank you jrb for your continuing effort.

Downloaded and running your A32 version and posting from it now. I am running SW Iron version78 browser and it's running quite smooth.

But one minor point, I dont know whether it is a bug or feature of the OS. When I click the maximize button, the pink one, the browser window shrink, and then I cant do any resize no matter dragging which corner or which side. I also test Iron78 on other puppies and there are no such problem.

Anyone has met this issue ?

 Very interesting. It's a problem with jwm that only seems to effect Chromium based browsers. Affects Vivaldi the same way.

Edit2: fixed in 1st update. Went with jwm-2.3.7. Found a Slitaz version which worked in A32 and compiled a version which worked in A64 along with libglib-2.0 from PuppyTahr. Also had to update jwm-themes.

I have tested A64. Cups working with the same packages as tahr64-light. I have copied the /etc/init.d/cups script from tahr64-light: it was not there after the installation. After installing the packages and copied cups script in /etc/init.d open a console and type:

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/cups start
Sylpheed and deps from tahr64 rep. Scanning working in A32 and A64. I have used hplip from Dog Linux (rcrsn51).

Is hplip required for Cups or Scanning or Both?

Do you have link I can use for testing? Does this happen with Palemoon in other Pup's?

Thanks for the feedback. J

I use hplip only for scanning. I use an HP all-in-one printer-scanner only for scanning. I print with a Brother Laser printer. I think hplip is also good for the printer but I can't test because I have not ink-jet cartridges.

This happen only in A64 (A32 works). Tested youtube and local news links this morning. I'm struggling with covid19 measures. I'll test more on this evening.
