Samba and CUPS for 2.14Lite (also how to create sfs)
Todd's 2.14 Lite is getting good reviews lately, and I wonder if a Samba/CUPS combined package will be useful as add-on to it, even as SFS add-on.
Will someone have this or be willing to post a how-to? THANKS!!!
The underlying technique in sfs creation is (use a 2.14Lite with pfix=ram option):
1. Keep adding packages and clean out duplicate files as needed. Test that the system works without rebooting.
2. Look in /initrd/pup_rw and copy the /usr, /root and /etc files (may include hidden files in /root) to a Linux directory, say /workspace.
3. Make a squash filesystem by "mksquashfs workspace/ new_214.sfs. Copy the new_214.sfs to where pup_save.2fs will be placed (or where it already exists).
4. Get ready to make a new save file - rename other existing pup_save.2fs as pup_old._2fs (or other variants that won't be recognized by Puppy).
5. Reboot, and at shutdown, choose to save to the partition where you have new_214.sfs.
6. After reboot, test that the new system works.
Thanks in advance. _________________ Puppy user since Oct 2004. Want FreeOffice? Get the sfs (English only).
