@semme,
Thanks for your PM's, I've been busy with family stuff for last couple of days.
Downloaded your zip file, created /root/masterPDF folder and extracted it to there, should I have extracted to somewhere else? Still no change,

Hello, LeithR

Copy the "Master PDF Editor 5" file from Semme, to /usr/share/applications and it should work.

You may have to update the menu for it to show up in the Documents menu.

Hi, festus.

For some reason, the Data File Host link just 'loads' forever, yet never seems to connect...

Anyways; in UPup 'Raring' tonight. As you know, I'd got the older 5.0.36 installed here, so I followed your first link, d/l'ed the tarball, unzipped with UExtract, and swapped the main directory over in /opt. Sorted!

(Just to be on the safe side, I've run a new .pet up for 5.4.38, and stuck it in my Puppy-stuff 'archive'. I like these self-contained, all-in-one-directory apps; just like DeaDBeef, they make packaging very easy indeed. And mean it's very simple to keep the Puppy 'cupboard' fully-stocked!)

I always have Qt4 installed for various other apps that require it (Dukto, for one) - 4.8.6, in my case - so that item, at least, is a 'given'. Cheers, anyway..!

Hey, I put the original zippyshare links, as alternates, up on the 1st post if you'd like to try them.

Hey, festus.

Umm.....nope. Like Ally found, that comes back as a 403 forbidden.

Y'know, this is why I find it helps to have a dedicated cloud-hosting a/c - in my case, I have 2; MediaFire and the long-standing Google Drive, which I've had for over 15 years, but only started using a couple of years back...

The snag, of course, with the 'free' ones (like DataFileHost) is that if nobody downloads the item for a set period of time, they delete it to save on server space. Which can be annoying..!

I can thoroughly recommend MediaFire. Even on the 'free' a/c, they're very good at quickly sorting out any issues you may have.

I've no idea of your location, but MediaFire are based somewhere in Texas...

@ festus:-

Oh, that's better..! :D

Yes, you'll find that'll work far better for sharing stuff. There's quite a number of us on here who use MediaFire....and it's well set-out, and extremely easy to use. You can arrange things into a standard 'tree' layout, as you add more items; sub-folders/directories, etc. Makes everything easier to find.

Sorted! Image

Cheers festus -
downloaded your 5.4.38 update into stock-standard BionicPup64 and it overwrote (?) the previous pet to open with all working history from the previous version intact. Thanks heaps :)

Lots of functions not working in 5.4.38 unless registered

#35 Post by wiak »

Masterpdfeditor build 5.4.38 unregistered Linux version seems to have a lot of limitations. Lots of functions say "you are not allowed to use this function in the free version" and there is a Registration button.

Used to say free for non-commercial use without limitation I think. Yet now, at the Linux download page you get: "Functionality comparison of the unregistered and commercial versions" and things definitely don't work. I have it on this Linux machine...

I thought that was maybe just Microsoft version, but no, lots of functions don't work any more in this newer Masterpdfeditor for Linux. No-one else noticed that?

Yes, I noticed the same thing several months ago. Since then I've passed on version 5 and I only use version 4 unencumbered by blocked functionality. The drawbacks are that version 4 tells me a new upgrade is available each time it starts, and, of course, version 5 features are missing.

@wiak & step

And hello, to all

Yes, I agree with the limited functionality in the newer 5.x series, esp. the watermarks inserted on every page of the document when editing text and images.

Therefore, like step, I use an older 4 series, ie, 4.3.61

I have updated the first post with 32 and 64 bit "sfs" packages.

Sorry for the delay in getting these on board.

Yes, that's also the one I use here, and yes pity about that upgrade message everytime it starts, but its a great pdf editor otherwise.
