Subject description: What adventures . . .

In ye olde days we started developing for the Raspberry Pi (before its release to the public)

Sadly I got seduced by the dark side of the Force and ended up Using an AppleSith JobsPad (I think it is called) Wink

Here is what I remember ...

What happens next? Cool

Very Happy

This last two weeks I have been on a Yinyana Buddhist retreat. At the hermitage my only contact is with the Sky and Buddha Amida.
Sky is the ISP I use as well as the view from my window ...
https://cundi.weebly.com/

Been modifying my OS (Raspbian) so it has some Puppy type programs ...

Been reminding myself of cli, bashscript and reading up on Penguin type news and sites ...

Need to update some of the antiquities ...

Work cap on ...

From what I understand ...

Woof-CE can compile for/on a raspberry pi?
Who apart from ye ancient Official Crustacean (that be me) can test?

... first things first ... who can produce and upload an alpha release? Cool

I seem to have temporarily messed up my display of Raspbian ... Shocked
It is the theme settings of the standard window manager they use.

Come back jwm all is ... better ...
On the first Raspberry Pi, Puppy/Puppi was more efficient ...

https://youtu.be/m5GEv1KEAxM

Update: Fortuitously, even though still away from my lobster geek cave, I had a cased and ready to go Rpi 3b+ ... which failed to boot all the way. Consulting my notes I found I could press shift continuously at boot up and reinstall the Raspbian software. I did posting from the back up machine now ...
I may be tempted to install Rasvuan Alpha ... mmm ...

I was tempted ... had a spare micro-SD and have an alpha Puppi Rasvuan on my Raspberry Pi 3+

Very Happy
I now have two modern ARM based Puppy/Puppi to run
(one based on Devuan and the other directly on Raspbian)
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=1035746#1035746

as well as the latest Raspberry hardware - Raspberry Pi 4 Cool

The Raspbian base seems the more mature/stable running Raspberry Pi option for my needs.

The Raspberry Pi 4 transparent cases I favour, possibly with an inbuilt switch are not yet at providers. Sad
So I have stabilised and updated my map pin to wood open base board ... Cool
So far the overhyped heat of the Rpi has not melted my fingers
or required me as a punkahwallah (which I am not a fan of) ...

I have let Liz and Eben Upton (core founders the Raspberry Pi) know
Puppy (Puppi) is now moving towards
supporting ARM using their base as the 'reference hardware'.
That is on top of the x86 32bit and 64bit support.

How exciting! Very Happy

PS. punkahwallah is an ancient form of servile fan boy Wink

We are Puppi Dorg
we have been assimulated
Shocked

Tee hee Laughing
Thanks bigpup Very Happy
Maybe so and Rpi 4 cases are being designed and built with some incredible fan systems ... so the overclockers are all ready to melt their pi ...
https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/raspberry-pi-4-cooling-18-09-2019/
The reality is the heat in an open design is passive, the heat is very cleverly funnelled into the metal components. In absolute extreme conditions it will cut out to protect the solder melting (not sure that could happen) and being used as an expensive fire-lighter ...

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1490467

Using a fan and a skirt we could envision a Rpi and Puppi that has hovercraft tendencies ...

If the system gets too hot then I would prefer the passive heatsink methodology:
Quote:
It might be of interest to some users, but Pimoroni finally have stocks of a sizeable (40x30x5mm) heatsink in Pirate black, specifically for the Raspberry Pi 4, and which I am assured will fit into the "official" case. The cost of the heatsink is £2.40 (plus postage) which isn't too bad I suppose!

Puppi Linux with Rpi 4
Open your hardware ...

Hi Lobster,

NASberry Pi 4

Not a Pi owner myself but saw this excellent video by Chris Barnatt on his ExplainingComputers YT channel.
(Issued 13th Oct 2019)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpvlEbdA6qI

The video could equally prove handy for turning any old netbook into a NAS as OpenmediaVault seem to have images/hybrid ISOs for everything.
