Users of StretchDog and its variants might want/need a kernel upgrade from the stock k4.9.0. Here is an easy way:

1. Go here and get a DevuanDog ISO.
2. Extract it and locate the four files initrd1.xz, initrd.img, vmlinuz1, k-4.19.0-5-amd64.squashfs.
3. Drop them into the "live" folder of your Stretch install. The first three will overwrite the current versions.
4. Reboot.

---------------

There have been reports of Puppy users trying to install various Puppies onto emmc drives. The boot fails with an "SFS file not found" error. I can confirm this with some (but not all) emmc setups.

FWIW, Fred's Dog builds have always been able to boot from an emmc drive for me.

Here are some tips for working with cheap Windows "cloudbooks".

1. Some of them have bleeding-edge wifi devices that need a change to PeasyWiFi's config. Set DRIVER=nl80211.

2. Most on-board speakers are dreadful. Get a little Bluetooth speaker with an Aux input and plug it into the headphone jack. Even with mono output, this will give better sound.

Hi gabtech,

If you can provide more details, e.g. which screencaster you used, I will try if I can reproduce the problem and search for a possible fix.

Fred

Hi Fred,

I found some ffmpeg commands online and modified them to suit my needs. I can happily record my desktop using the ffmpeg script attached but with some warnings. Could you refine it?

@fredx-181

Is there a kernel 4.9.0-11-amd64 update available for StretchDog?

'thanks for stretch, proven itself to be a real CHAMP in the linux world'

Hi sszindian, here's a tar.gz archive containing k-4.9.0-11-amd64.squashfs, initrd1.xz, initrd.img, vmlinuz1.
https://github.com/fredx181/StretchDog/releases/download/v2.1/k-4.9.0-11-amd64.tar.gz
Extract in 'live' folder (replacing initrd1.xz, initrd.img, vmlinuz1, better make backup of the original files first) and reboot.
If it works out ok you may want to uninstall the older kernel from synaptic.

Fred

Hi people,

I'm trying to setup a wifi access point using Wlanmaker on stretchdog 32. The wifi adapter am using is Intel PRO/Wireless 4965. How do I enable master mode? The article here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/MasterMode says it can be done.

"For ipw2100/ipw2200, unfortunately there is no way to use them as AP, but this can be done for ipw3945 and ipw4965, maybe ipw2915 too, which are pretty good cards anyway, using fully open-source iwlwifi drivers, but it can't be done with old Intel drivers with closed microcode."

That's a separate issue from wlanmaker. Possibly try
Code:
rfkill unblock wlan

Do you have the WiFi card working in "regular" mode?
