LibreOffice Writer Automatic Italic when / --Stopping it

#1 Post by mikeslr »

Frankly it was driving me nuts. Every time I tried to provide a location -- e.g. /root-- the text automatically changed to root. Trying to undo this often made matters worse. Trying to keep track of what I'd have to edit later made writing a chore. I was about to ditch LibreOffice entirely.

Seems I was not alone. Someone asked and told how to modify that behavior:

"Go to menu Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoCorrect Options
In dialogue select tab Options
Deselect option Automatic bold, /italic/, -strikeout- and _underline_"

It took me a while actually follow these directions. Hopefully the attached screenshot may help others.

The rest of the post is worth reading. Unfortunately, programmers don't seem to pay attention to those who use their creations.

"This should NEVER be a default - this is the kind of stupidity that makes LO unusable for new users.

When someone types something, they expect to get what they typed unless they say otherwise.

Whoever came up with this idea should be thrown in the river with a Unix directory path tied round his neck! ;-)
