How to use Opengl for 3D printing?

#1 Post by ralcocer »

I have tried to use opengl for 3D printing I can get Slic3r to install but it need OpenGL to work. I know the hardware is capable, Porteus works without any additional packages.

Any Advide?

I think most puppies support opengl ,
some even have 'glxgears' installed to check speed
however the version of opengl is usually old --> like version 1.1

You should run a recent distro. For instance I run fatdog64 800
and it runs a recent version of opengl and has a nvidia driver
available

What hardware is providing the graphics?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)

I want to do 3D-printing but hardy anything works.Bearly all graphics program require opengl.
Dpup Stretch 7.5 is latest 32 bit version.
It's compatible to Debian stretch packages.

For debian dog stretch, you probably need to add the mesa dri package.

Unlike Puppy, most Debian Dogs do not include the mesa drivers by default.

The package name is libgl1-mesa-dri While you are at it, also install mesa-utils

Then run glxgears from the terminal to see if it has worked.

Posting on the Debian Dog thread will get Fred's attention if that doesn't help you.

Rafae:-

I've no idea whether this might be of some use. It's a 3D printer app I came across and packaged in order to help out another Puppian a while back:-

OpenSCAD

Ravensrest was able to get both 32- and 64-bit packages working (and seemed quite pleased with 'em, too), so.....I assume that the packages must have done what he wanted. I'm not surprised by your request; I could see that with the hardware prices coming down steadily, it wasn't going to be long before more Puppians started experimenting with it, and more questions would be forthcoming.

Have a read through the thread; in particular, take note of the other links to Ultimaker's 'Cura' software. I think, given what I've been re-reading in the thread, that these packages should let you do whatever it is you want.

It's no use asking me; I haven't a clue how 3D 'printing' works..!

Have fun, anyway. Just out of curiosity, what Puppy are you using here?

Mike.
