Peebee, this won't be a problem for anyone else, but in all previous 64 bit Pups, I've been able to run 32bit emelfm (& a few other utils) by adding a few 32 bit libs to /usr/lib , but not this Pup. I get 'emelfm file not found'. Works in LxPupSc64. I thought ScPup64 was LxPupSc64 minus lxde. Is there a 32 bit compat file?

Hi ozsouth

It is LxPupSc64 minus LXDE.......can you provide any more info on the error report?

There is no "32 bit compat file" - and I wouldn't be sure how to create one without doing some research.....maybe the Slacko64 version might work???

Sorry Peebee - I forgot about 32bit libs in /lib. Only checked /usr/lib. Now Fine.

Thanks peebee! Grabbed the sfs, installed without a hitch, only oddity
I've noticed is when changing Preferences (Tools/Preferences), when
you select a different option, the checkbox doesn't change...BUT the
setting will! Anyway, small annoyance, lol...to get a somewhat modern
browser to run on this old netbook (Acer Aspire One ZG5) has been
a fun filled adventure!

Odd - works OK for me when loaded onto a pristine ScPup64....

What is the error? Run firefox in a terminal and copy/post the result please.

What is the md5 sumcheck of the sfs?

Do you have other things loaded?

Thank you, I did manage to load it with a txz file I had. When ever I tried to load the sfs file it said that it failed to load it. I use a "full" installation, and only loaded Skype and a Russian keyboard pet onto it.

That's it: sfs does not go well with full install. If you have 1G RAM or more, do a frugal install of Puppy: You will use Puppy's capabilities better.

Hi Peebee, I've already got to appreciate your work with LxPupSc64 that I've had the pleasure to try in the past. Undoubtedly you are one of the most active members of this forum.
Now I have discovered ScPup64, installed it in frugal on USB 2.0 stick and use it on an ASUS X555LB, below the specifications:

I've been using it for a few days now. I have made some customizations and installed some applications from PPM and I have noticed that various versions of the dependencies are installed, for example in installing gkrellm I found myself with lm_sensors-3.4 and lm_sensors-3.5, it happened to me by installing gkrellm and the gtk3 libraries. Also missing the Compton icon in Puppy Control Pannel.
But apart from that I haven't had any other problems so far.
Thank you for the effort and the time you are dedicating to us.

hwmon modules problem

#53 Post by davids45 »

G'day peebee,

I've made frugals of both your most recent updates to your Slacko-based Pups.

Switched to JWM and loaded my all-in-one-links-only Apps sfs and most apps run as normal for Pups.

Just two on-going problems with many new Pups using Slackware and Debian bases (but not Ubuntu Pups):

1) hardware module (for CPU Temps) seems loaded but is not responding to sensors or sensors-detect. Boot-manager reports the needed smsc47b397 driver is loaded but sensors-detect says no i2c drivers found - but they are in the /lib directory as normal. So Pwidgets misses these data for its CPU Temp widget. (screenshot has the various windows)

2) Inkgui, the quite old-but-good ink level package to display these in my Epson printer is reporting no printer found (also in screenshot). Again, this is fine in Ubuntu Pups.

Older Slackos and DPups were also often not affected, so could these failures be kernel-related or new woof issues?

I'm happy to try any suggestion to explore these problems.

Thanks for all your work with these Pups.

David S.

@davids45 - have you tried taskbar temp - as per here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 78#1008278

Also, try running inkgui in terminal to see if any libs missing. If so can copy them from an inkgui-working pup.

Inkgui & CPU Temps Problems

#57 Post by davids45 »

G'day ozsouth,

I've tried your suggestions in some other non-working Pups with varied results (screenshots). I've included a both-good output in one of the screenshots.

If Pwidgets and the terminal show temperatures, so does the task bar. I had seen the start-up 'won't work' message from 01micko, but, sometimes, in some Pups, this would later work if I loaded the right smsc driver.

I tried running just 'ink' in the terminal but no parameters would get any response. No missing libs reported. Entering 'inkgui' gave just the 'no printers found' window, nothing in the terminal window.

I get a GDBus error message when ScPup starts (see its screenshot) which I forgot to mention before  .

Anyway, I'm fine with plenty of old Stretch Pups & Slackos, and all Ubuntu-using Pups for CPU temperatures and printer ink-levels.

Hello Peebee,

I took a look at both 32bit and 64bit ScPup 19.01+4
Loaded devx and kernel_headers to test compiling of NetSurf browser.
Package gperf is required, it is only a small single executable so it may be worth considering adding it to the devx.

As with the slackos, there is the perl-html-parser package (perl modules) which is needed and missing. Installing this via PPM produces an error when compiling NetSurf which complains that the perl binaries and libraries are mismatched. Not sure why this should happen if the packages are all Slackware Current.

I grabbed the source package of the same number (3.71) from Debian Jessie repos and compiled that in ScPup and then everything is matched up correctly. Package to search for in Debian is named libhtml-parser-perl instead of perl-html-parser in Slackware. Anyway, with this, NetSurf compiles and runs OK. I have uploaded the 32bit and 64bit packages in case anyone wants to test them.
http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks

The one from Alt Linux which you repackaged is also fine, but has the copy of the main executable /usr/bin/netsurf-gtk which is surplus to requirements because /usr/lib/netsurf/nsgtk is a copy of the same file and that is the one which gets called in all cases as far as I can see. If you want to be able to call it as netsurf-gtk I suppose you could add a symlink.

Looking good though, thanks for all the hard work and dedication.
