I am learning nmap on my ububtu machine but want to use it on my puppy machine.
I tried to find and install nmap but only found this link which is old and had no install file.

Has anyone used nmap on Puppy..?
If you do run nmap? how did you install it. ?

I do not use nmap so know nothing about it.
But I did a search in Puppy Package Manager(PPM) for nmap.
First update the PPM database. PPM>Configure>Update database.
In one of the Ubuntu repositories, that PPM can search, it found stuff for nmap.
The search showed nmap_7.60 in the search results.
Downloaded and installed it along with some dependencies.
It does not make a menu entry.
In console typed nmap and it complained about a lib file missing. (liblinear.so.3)
PPM search for liblinear.so.3 gave no results.
But PPM search for liblinear did give results.
Downloaded and installed liblinear3_2.1.0+dfsg-2
That probably was more than needed, but the missing lib is now installed.
In console nmap now starts up and runs.
You will need to run it from console.
Just enter nmap in the console and it shows all commands and info on what they do.
In PPM search for nmap.
It does list what it says is a Graphical user interface (GUI) for nmap that can be downloaded and installed.
However, it wants to download and install a different window manger than is in Puppy to use the GUI.
That usually just adds a bunch of stuff to Puppy and can cause other issues for other programs.
So, if you are happy using nmap from a console. This should work.

Never used nmap before.
Thought I would try compiling it in my Dpup Stretch and it all worked fine with just
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install
The GUI is included in the source package and it all compiles, but I had to install python-gtk from PPM to get that to actually run.
For the GUI you call zenmap
There is a .desktop file for menu entry.
This is version 7.70

I followed bigpup's advice and got the console version going. I need to know more about nmap before I move onto another interface thx OscarTalks .
I've never compiled a package yet foxpup but puppy is the perfect place to try.
