hi battleshooter,

good to see you!
xfce should install straight from the PPM, and add some menu fixes, fix thunars root warning and add wmswitcher. the fixes it adds are in /usr/local/quickpet/checks/xfce
i don't use xfce so if you have any suggestions for improvments i'll add them

Just curious....as Bionic obsoleted my Sony Vaio laptop's SDCard slot, I just tried on another laptop (an HP with an Intel chip and brcm wireless) to install Bionic and it will not recognize the built-in wireless (Brcm4311 802.11bg WLAN) card.
hi belham2,

i'll add the wl driver in the next release, and recompile the kernel with peebees fix + a working redshift.pet

issues added to 2nd post

thanks

Frugal using save folder.
HP 14 Chromebook

Menu>Setup>Mouse/Keyboard Wizard>Advanced Configuration>Keyboard Model

When I click on Keyboard Model
I get this error message
see attached image
I fixed this by editing xorg.conf.
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
In this section of xorg.conf several items are blocked by using # at start of entry line.
Remove the # and save changes.

This section of xorg.conf now looks like this:

Code: Select all

	MatchIsKeyboard "on"
	MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
	Driver "evdev"

Internet setup speaking,one question;
frisbee run as spot?
has it cannot run from console root.
Hi Revolverve,

IIRC, frisbee will work after using sns, but only if while in sns you delete your wifi's profile.

Not in Bionicpup64 at the moment. I don't think frisbee was configured to run as Spot. I can think of any reason why it should have been, why any system application should be. Under Xenialpup64, typing frisbee in the console opens frisbee.

As the person responsible for frisbee, I would like to hear more about these issues and work with you or Revolverve to address them. We should discuss this either via PM or the frisbee 1.4... thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 555#898555

Do you have any pointers as to how to make it spot-friendly?

Revolverve,
Before you change anything related to your frisbee problem, could you get a copy of the system (/var/log/messages) and /tmp/xerrs.log and send them (PM) to me? Do this after you see the problem after a boot-up.

You should not have to delete the SNS profiles to make frisbee work.

Please excuse: I don't understand this spot stuff, especially re Frisbee.

I rebooted into Bionic64 with pfix=ram on this Dell E6410.
Ran Internet Connection Wizard, chose Frisbee. Pretty soon I was connected.

Phil,
Remember my jackserver 1 and 2 saga...well i was able to get muse 3 sequencer with jack to run ....without removing included libjackserver...another puzzle to solved, well, solved ,hmmm,no sure.. maybe i did say abracadabra while hitting enter one time... ;)
if magic still works,i will try to make a sfs of muse3/lv2-yoshimi/qt5 for bionicpup.

Works well for my requirements. Both the 4.9.58 and 4.9.15 kernels used
on xenialpup64 versions work ok for me.

The temps icon works with right click then run-in-terminal. All four cpu
core temps are reported as well as the hard drive temp.

I installed pulseaudio from PPM but the pulseaudio daemon was refusing to start up with pulseaudio --start

I have since found a simple fix as detailed here:

hi wiak, while im fooling around sound topics too,
as libpulseaudio is "twist in" bionicpup,
in a "learning process" i got a question:
did you removed build in libpulseaudio before installing from ppm?

and surfing the topic waves...
packed muse3 sequencer,lv2(yoshimi,calf,invada),sooperlooper,rakarrack,+

new iso uploaded. link on first page.

There's been some radical changes with this build!

the kernel has been configured using fatdogs config which produces a much smaller kernel (thanks james & kirk)

8821au, 8821ce, wl wireless drivers included

we're now using ffmpeg & mpv .pets rather than the ubuntu packages.
Abiword, gnumeric & inkscapelite are swapped for libreoffice.
Mtpaint swapped for gimp.

Libreoffice is a stripped down ubuntu version, i've left out math & base but these can be installed from the PPM. as can dictionaries, help and anything else you want to add. For spellchecking you might need to install the hunspell version for your language.
The first launch is slowish as config files are written to /root/.config, but after that it's pretty snappy. Also turning on tools>>options>>general>>enable systray quickstarter makes it super snappy.

should we keep libreoffice & gimp? or keep abiword and mtpaint?

Hello 666philb

On 7.9.6 adding kernel modules via bootmanager doesn't seem to work.
They appear in the right pane
The on-screen messages during boot up show them being loaded.
But they are not loaded.

Modprobing them in rc.local does load them and then the VirtualBox udev rule creates the device nodes correctly. So the modules are OK.

7.9.7 - very nice - well done Phil.. As mtpaint is only a small package, easy for users to add. Libreoffice good. 402mb not a giant iso - most of my remasters are bigger.

Mtpaint is about all that is needed by most people.
I say keep Mtpaint.
Gimp can always be installed if you really need it.
Offering a Gimp pet package or sfs package would be a good idea.

Abiword is a piece of junk for me. I have never had good results using it.
Just having LibreOffice write would be good to replace Abiword.
I guess, if you need all of LibreOffice's programs, you could still use Get LibreOffice to install the full LibreOffice suite.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Pretty much agree with bigpup, but having lots of RAM to waste, and by now having forgotten how to use Mtpaint, I always load gjuhasz's gimp + mypaint, even though gimp is a couple versions old and I never use mypaint. But for large programs, and those which update often, I prefer SFSes: Keeps SaveFiles small, easy to update, and --when not in use-- requires considerably less RAM.
People's needs and experience differ. Bionicpup64 has quickpet. I'd suggest not including any of the mentioned applications in the ISO. Provide them thru quickpet: mtpaint and abiword as pets, Libreoffice (small), Libreoffice (full) and gimp as SFSes. Saves unnecessary use of bandwidth.

Bionicpup64 7.9.7 CE beta

I installed to the hard drive of my Compaq Presario:

System: Host: puppypc26259 Kernel: 4.19.4 x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: JWM 2.3.7 Distro: bionicpup64 7.9.7

Installed favorite applications with PPM.
Installed xfce4 + xfce4-goodies, not working properly, will boot to
xfce4 desktop but in a few seconds jwm background appears with nothing
else, no icons or panel.

That's it so far,
Thanks for the new beta.
