Solved>>How to use TP-LINK TL-WN725N USB wifi?

#1 Post by cthisbear »

I need a pet for this nano wireless usb.
I mainly need it for Dpup Stretch 7.5 CE

As I am switching to Vodaphone Broadband 4G, here in Sydney
until the NBN comes along. I have bought this for a desktop.

I just loathe paying the sh.ts at Telstra for a landline that I never use
because of every Indian scammer ringing me up.
Also they keep sticking the price up to give me the crummy ADSL2 speed
that I get, so I am cutting it right off.

Unfortunately I have to give up TPG for a year.
Some people hate them but MR Teoh at TPG is one of the smartest
blokes in Telecommunications in Australia.
And has saved me thousands over the course of 20 years.

I may have to switch Puppies but I really like Stretch
as it works on many PCs and laptops.

There might be hope yet for Stretch.

My TP -Link TL- WN725N I bought killed the Win 7
integrated sound on my other desktop.
Took a few hours to fix it...headphones worked, not speakers.

I did all sorts of stuf to cheat it, disabling the bios, re-enables bios sound,
finally removed all Audio drivers, rebooted and MS reinstalled the drivers
and she worketh.

So I got a message from Semme about my other wireless issue,
>> usb Simplecom, and while replying in Bionic 64,
I changed my Simplecom usb to the TP Link branded wifi,

after I restarted from Xorg >> typed xwin, plugged it in
and it showed up as >>> wireless r8188eu pci:

So I got one working at least.
I might copy the Firmware files and do a cheat.
Hey! I've got to try, mightn't work...diferent Kellogs kernels?????

Posting now, and of course I took out the Lan cable first.

Solved >>> Stretch does work with TP-LINK TL-WN725N.

As stated I changed the Nano usb to this Asus desktop
and it worked in Bionic Pup 64.

So I've just booted Stretch and it works.

I should have switched the USB wifis at the start to the other computer..

Dumb happens....and grrrr! ... I hate being wrong.

Now...to fix up the Simplesh.t adapter.
I had to buy 2 different brands as they only had i TP-Link left.

TP-Link was only $13.00 Au, the other was a littl;e bit more.more.

Thanks to everyone that may have looked at this post.

@ Chris:-

Late to the party, I know.....that's me all over.

Just wanted to put my two-penn'orth in on this one. I've used this exact nano adapter for a few years. Support for it came in, I believe, with a particular release of the 3.13/3.14 series kernels.

My Linux journey started with Ubuntu 'Trusty Tahr'. To start with, the WN-725N simply wouldn't work. (Worked under XP, of course, but hey.....whadd'ya expect, right?) I just gave it up as a bad job.

Around 4 months down the road, after the first 'point' release, I tried it again, and.....suddenly, it was working. Yay!

November of 2014, I switched to Puppy full-time; Canonical, with that same point release, had decided to drop support for the big Compaq desktop's graphics adapter. B**tards... Tahrpup 6.0 fired straight up, and the display problems just weren't there any more. Tahr came with the 3.14.20 kernel; as expected, the driver was there, and everything played ball from the word go....

The point of this missive being that anything after the initial release of Tahrpup ought to run that particular adapter OOTB. I've had it working with a 17-yr old Dell lappie, with no fuss at all. I've also used it with the Compaq, too (she's from 2004!), but I prefer the Gigabit ethernet PCI card I've got set up on her. And TalkTalk UK do us a pretty good deal for a basic broadband package without any cap....

I presume yours is a v2, right? (The v1s used the rtl 8192cu chipset, but weren't on release for very long...)

Mike.
