MrAccident wrote:mikeslr - "Restart-x" - is the part I missed. But how to restart it - without the taskbar?
Do you get a Pop-Up menu if you Right-Click the Desktop? If so, Select "Shutdown" then select Restart-X, or Restart-Graphical-Server.

If you can't get a Pop-Up menu, my flakey memory tells me that Alt-Ctl-Backspace will drop you out of "X", but doesn't clearly recall how to get you back in. I recall that instructions will appear on the screen which say something like "To restart the graphical server type --without the quotes-- "restart xwin" or "restart xwin jwm".

I'll be back in a couple of minutes. Will have to quit my web-browser before doing a Ctrl-Atl-backspace, and reconnect if and when I've read the instructions to get back into X.

musher0 posted while I was typing, so I won't have to "try and see". Thanks, musher0. :D

Failed. I copied .jwmrc-tray.bak from the save-file to sda5 - renamed it .jwmrc-tray; booted to the regular mode; deleted .jwmrc-tray in root; copied .jwmrc-tray from sda5 to root; restarted X; and it didn't come back.

 An important P.S.
It means that your .jwmrc-tray may be perfectly OK, and judging from its content you posted it is.

You should concentrate on .jwmrc
This file should contain the menu, and if doesn't, your right-click will not work.
It also should contain a reference to .jwmrc-tray, and if it doesn't, your taskbar (JWM calls it tray) will not show.

Please open a console window, type following commands and press Enter:

Code: Select all

fixmenus; jwm -restart
After that your taskbar should be back and right-click should work again.

If not then please post the content of .jwmrc.

MochiMoppel - worked!!!!!!
Specifically - I opened a terminal in a window - and used the command, and it just came-back; and I rebooted - and it's all there.
From my experience - it's always the simple solution - that works, and the most difficult and complex - doesn't.
I can't express my relief; not having to start-over. I probably don't use anything "out of the box"; a good version of alot of the programs - needs to be found - especially, in a long search all over the internet (or a few Google searches)(and of course - I didn't write them and their specific version down(now will)); and most have their own settings and other hacks, which also many needed to be searched or to ask in the forum etc etc.
Thank you very much - everybody!

With respect...

No, not necessarily the simplest solution.

"It's always the last solution that works!"

Because it works, you don't need to go looking for another solution!
I think Einstein's dad said it. ;) (Or my mom?)

musher0 - I'm not sure if you meant it as a joke; but from my experience - dealing with countless such problems - it's like I described.

No offense intended MrAccident, none at all.
I undestand you went through several days of anxiety because of this
problem and I sympathize.

The little proverb is indeed meant as a joke! With a bit of logic to it.
To lighten the mood? :)

Enjoy your taskbar!

Thanks for MochiMoppei for his good insight.

Have a great day, all!

 It took me at least 40 years to figure out that there was a reason I found things in the last place I looked. It's because I then stopped looking.

Yeah, they say that every joke - contains half a truth.
Though they also say - that half a truth - is falsity.
