Nope, streaming as you suggest did not play the URL I provided for both your approaches. Came close using VLC, but produced a page of errors.

Code: Select all

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'https://r3---sn-5ualdn7s.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?fvip=3&ratebypass=yes&itag=18&dur=312.354&clen=7518968&ei=326tW9HrCZz1j-8PqrOg6AQ&initcwndbps=1336250&source=youtube&requiressl=yes&ipbits=0&lmt=1481294790664061&sparams=clen%2Cdur%2Cei%2Cgir%2Cid%2Cinitcwndbps%2Cip%2Cipbits%2Citag%2Clmt%2Cmime%2Cmm%2Cmn%2Cms%2Cmv%2Cpl%2Cratebypass%2Crequiressl%2Csource%2Cexpire&ms=au%2Conr&mv=m&mt=1538092629&id=o-ABlUIFryS_rvSlI3A-UC6ZTDX9ZVccuX4GU3I_QjmhKJ&gir=yes&pl=14&expire=1538114367&mn=sn-5ualdn7s%2Csn-p5qs7n76&mm=31%2C26&ip=172.72.33.129&c=WEB&mime=video%2Fmp4&key=yt6&signature=503287FE6BBC699DB78F216F314CDAA1634C62AA.12087F01AE8D939D4CB8A15F98AA3E3D524C16E3E3'. Check the log for details.
EDIT: VLC plays some (or most) YT videos, but not all. The error above comes from the URL provided in my second post of this thread. Making some progress.
Method 2 works for me with that url. Did you download the the zip file with the .lua file in my HOWTO post? BTW - Method 2 is always more likely to work as it is the actual download link.

Using method 2, all I get is a download dialog. No "Open in..." option. I can always download the vid. i want to view it first before I download it.

Right-click the download link for more options.

There are 3 "Open Link in...", but all three yield the download dialog.

What browser? Is your media player plugin working? Alternative way - select "copy link location" > open vlc > ctrl+v and enter.

"alternative" method is method 1?

FF Quantum 62.0.2

I know an online downloader that produces a preview.

Method 2 (alternative way to do it). Instead of "open in" select to copy the download link to clipboard like suggested and run vlc as mentioned in my previous post.

Y'know, not being funny, but I read several threads like this and I think to myself....."I don't understand the problem".

Granted, I'm not really a regular Firefox user; only occasionally will I spend a day with Quantum. My regular, daily browser is the last 32-bit version of Chrome, Chrome 48 (released 4 ½ years ago.)

I can watch YT vids till the cows come home. Not once do I ever get these problems that I see many others encountering.

Okay, I'm not really a 'downloader', either. I rarely find anything on YT that I actually want to watch more than once. Don't forget; YT has been owned by Google for years. They, of course, want you to stay on the site as much as possible.....which is why they put up as many barriers as they possibly can.

All in the name of 'improving your browser experience'. Hah!

(Not only that, but you cannot d/l YT stuff if you use Chrome, period. Google's 'developer policies' have had that baked into browser code for a long time. It's only the Mozilla family of browsers that will even offer YT downloaders.....and 'Big Brother' goes out of his way to f**k them up as fast as they're offered.)

Mike.

I'm running Tahr 6.0.5 and FF Quantum 62.0.2 (32-bit) on a Dell Precision Dual Core with 4 GB ram. About a week ago, YouTube started refusing to play every other YT video, giving an HTML5 error. What has happened and how do I fix this?
Youtube and Quantum 62.0.2 (32-bit) work fine. Just delete your corrupt profile

Hi,

Look in /root/.mozilla/firefox/[random_name].default
Rename or move (make a backup if you want) this folder. Restart Firefox.

I had the same problem, this solution has worked.

fabrice,
I renamed the old .default profile directory, then rebooted, tried to start FF,got an error messafe that profile could not be found. Tried unsuccessfully to start Profile Manager from console. Created a new directory in /.mozilla named ytready.default. Got same error, profile not found.

How do I create the new profile?
