Thanks for testing RC3 with nvidia graphics. If I understand correctly, you successfully compiled and use the 304.137 nvidia driver, and have no problems using the Puppy Package Manager (PPM). Maybe 01101001b's problem with PPM is something more than the 304.137 nvidia driver?

The devx for Dpup Stretch contains GCC: 6.3.0, as generated by Woof-CE. However, to support meltdown and spectre mitigation, the kernel must be built with GCC equal to or greater than 7.3.0. I think the reason you see the "cc version check failed" error while compiling the nividia driver is explained in the following link at nvidia.com (even so, the compilation is generally successful).

Hi everyone. I can only spot 3 (meaningful?) differences:

- I'm using Dpup Stretch 7.5 Linux 4.9.71-stretch i686 (however when I upgraded to RC3 and reinstalled nvidia drivers, problem persisted).
- Although driver version is correct (304.137) my vga controller is different: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] (rev a2)
- I don't use JWM but FbBox.

I can't think of anything else. I don't use rare software or strange settings.

I appreciate all your efforts but I think it's enough. Since I seem to be the only one with this issue but now having an alternative (thanks again Sc0ttman ) this problem doesn't merit any more testing. As far as I am concerned, Dpup Stretch 7.5 is a go

If in some near future I happened to find the culprit of this annoyance, I'll post it here just for information. Thank you all!

I can't get my bluetooth dongle working... I'd like to connect up a Ipega gamepad, and a wireless keyboard..

Seems that this Stretch puppy uses its own dbus libs, and this *may* be the problem, when using th bluetooth packages in the repo...

I could install the dbus packages from the repo, which might fix bluetooth, but it would break other stuff (file open dialogs?) ...

Has anyone been able to get Bluetooth working in this Stretch?

Hi guys... Here are come other (minor) problems I found... Most of which could *probably* be forwarded to the woof2 devs, but should check here first...

These "problems" or "bugs" were encountered while trying to work out which packages are pre-installed (builtin) and what their contents are:

Problem 1:

libimlib2 is builtin, but only ~/.packages/builtin_files/libimlib exists..
This causes 'libimlib2' to not be "found" easily when working with builtins...

Solution: as no imlib v1 is installed (it seems),
you can rename the offending file to ~/.packages/builtin_files/libimlib2

Problem 2:

Peasydiff and emelfm2 have files installed, but are not listed as builtin packages.

Problem 3:

The list of built in Xorg and xserver packages in ~/.packages/builtin_files/ does not even closely match the list of builtin Xorg packages according to ~/.packages/woof-installed-packages ... No idea why..


....

All of these are probably 'problems' at the woof level, or intended cutomisations for Stretch.. But thought I would point them out..

Just my 2 cents:

Puppy should probably include by default working MTP/android mounting tools,
and working Bluetooth - given how many services and devices rely on (or
benefit from) them these days..

Getting my Android phone or bluetooth devices connected up to any new
Puppy is never as easy as it should be... and often hit and miss!

Recent updates in Woof-CE address several issues in Puppy Package Manager (PPM), including your report of PPM failure and the associated error message: unable to obtain size of remote file. The next release of Dpup Stretch 7.5 will include the PPM updates.

The problems you report with builtin files (libimlib2, peasydiff, emelfm2) will be corrected in the next Dpup release.

The variation of xorg/xserver files shown in ~/.packages/builtin_files and ~/.packages/woof-installed-packages is determined by Woof-CE. You will see this also in other Woof-CE Pups.

Concerning android mounting tools, in the next release of Dpup Stretch I can include mtp_detect as currently utilized by 666philb in xenialpup. This works fine with my motorola smartphone.

Concerning Bluetooth in Dpup Stretch, I do not use Bluetooth peripherals so my experience is limited. If you (or other users) find a working solution, I would be happy to include it in the next release of Dpup Stretch.

Another great idea indeed! I used to connect my phone with no fuss when that app appeared in my former system (lxxenialpup).

Then, in lxartfulpup, it disappeared Only solution I found then was to use "My Phone Explorer" option to access my Samsung Note II folders.

In a stroke of luck, I could find in a forgotten corner of the internet, an old time version of mpt_detect, mpt-status and go-mtps.

By the way, how can I get rid of the PupCamera every time I connect a most modern phone in my system? (thankfully I have not this problem when connecting my Note II). Geeez... it's a kick in the teeth

To disable device autodetection by pupcamera, you could try the following:

Comment (prepend) line 12 of /etc/udev/rules.d/88-puppy-autodetect.rules with the hash symbol (#), and reboot.

Edit: I opened alsa mixer (from the command line) played with the settings and now it is working Not sure why I wasn't able to do it with PNMixer.

I'm having trouble using the version of gpg2 from the debian repo (see thread), and I think this is likely due to not having IPv6 set-up on my system. Perhaps there is a puppy version of pgp2 that I should have installed instead that will work without IPv6. If so may I request that we incorporate gpg2 into the next release of dpup stretch?

AFAIK Debian Stretch has no gpg2 version yet. What it has is just a symlink to gpg. That's it. You can check this out here (evidently, the same goes for Dpup Stretch, I guess )

Included browser is Palemoon 27.9.3 which is fairly recent.
Update to Palemoon 28.x is easy to do but there may be a few issues with it so you may choose not to.
Other browsers can be easily installed.

This Puppy is 32bit so no recent Chrome is available. If it MUST be Google Chrome then it will have to be an older one.

Other Chromium derivative browsers are available, some don't produce 32bit versions any more, but others still do. Slimjet worked last time I looked but has to be run as spot, not as root. Vivaldi works, but the User Interface is not everybody's cup of tea. I like it myself but it is personal taste.

I don't think there is a Puppy Stretch repo as such. I suggest you look in the Additional Software > Browsers and Internet section of this forum for suggestions but read carefully to determine which packages are suitable.
