Zigbert is the developer of pBurn, so any feedback you can give on the problems you've encountered could help him sort them out. The development thread is at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=23881yr1945 wrote:I have had numerous problems with pburn relative to rewritable DVD's

The final HardInfo report from Merlin III, the Pentium D 3.4GHz setup, can be seen at http://www.jades.org/comps/hir_mer3_593fl.html - the version of Puppy that it's running as I type this is a full of Slacko 5.9.3. It runs very nicely on it other than the problem with lp and ppdev not being loaded ...

And they have no temp sensor built in, either... arrgh! Odd, mine does. Pentium D 3.4GHz in an Asus P5P800-VM mainboard. Ah... lucky you! :) As far as I can tell, this one is an earlier 3.2 GHz (840), 130w Smithfield - and had no built-in thermal monitoring (later ones did) - http://ark.intel.com/p...

Although I'm perfectly happy with the performance of my old Pentium D equipped Dell box, yeah... they really put out the heat! (Nice for keeping toes warm on cold winter nights...). Additionally, Intel went out of their way to supply the loudest cooling fans... in the world! The overheat problem on...

Heh, just discovered that the Freezer i30 will actually be too tall to fit in the case with the side on. Good job I haven't made the order yet!Jades wrote:CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer i30
Will probably have to go for the Freezer 13 instead.

Managed to get the Pentium D machine running reasonably stably by leaving the side off the case. Will post what is likely to be the last HardInfo report from it tomorrow if I have time. I have managed to get authorisation from Management for a radical upgrade of the PC. The new build will be as foll...

My K6-2 system had 256MB when I got it, I think I was running Lupu 5.0.1 back then. The Pentium D and K6-2 ran the same version of Puppy right up to Lupu 5.2.5 although 5.1.1 was the last version where everything ran out of the box on the K6-2. The K6-2 is still going strong, I use it every day. It'...

@Jades: was it indeed 3/4fs savefile? If so could you please create and check also 2fs? The save file on both frugals was ext4 (4FS). The LiveCD installs on the same NTFS partition are also 4FS ones but don't have the same problem. Will report back on 2fs saves later. Tested the same frugal on the ...

Thanks for testing Jades! Always a pleasure. Good thing there is a warning to defrag  It may have also been that the Windows session hadn't exited cleanly, still haven't managed to fully fix the PC. Defragging on Win 7 (and presumably 8 ) is automatic now, although you can also do it manually...

Feedback on PUI on the Pentium D. Screens below. Test 4 doesn't comment on the Win7 Pro 64-Bit on install sda2 but does show the 100MB System Reserved partition on sda1. Test 2 was the other way round. Neither test version spotted the XP install on the only partition on sdb (the second hard drive), ...

OK, as promised, here is some diagnostic info relating to my troubles with using my HP DeskJet 720C connected to the parallel port of my Penitum D machine. Tests conducted on a pfix=ram boot of Slacko 5.9.3. Obviously I made sure the printer was actually switched on and connected to the PC! The firs...

Managed to get printing to the parallel port attached DeskJet 720C working on 593. Issuing modprobes for ppdev and lp resulted in the reappearance of parport0 and lp0 in /dev - CUPS was then able to see the printer. I could then set it up and print following the installation of the driver pet.. The ...

Just some thoughts. Check permissions on /dev/ppdev/lp0 (or whatever the device node is) .. mine on /dev/usb/lp0 are crw-rw---- 1 root lp 180, 0 Jul 9 09:32 lp0 See attached screengrab from Slacko 5.7.0 LiveCD setup. The device is /dev/parport0 and when ppdev is modprobed on 593 parport0 turns up a...

Any more thoughts on the problem with parallel port printing? If you need any other tests or reports just let me know. It is a bit perplexing for me, I'm no printer expert. I have tried to source a working parallel printer to no avail. The device for the parallel port appears to be missing entirely...
