One of the places was a public Library

Computer hardware was so old that folks who wanted to use the catalog - well it either hung or took forever. and then neither computer went online. Browser works about the same whether it is Windows or Puppy Linux. Librarian was stunned about how much faster the computers worked. I also gave it to s...

I replaced Windows XP with Puppy

I helped some others who were using XP, which no longer worked on the internet, to put Puppy Linux on the machines.

Talk like a Linux user. Guilty as charged.

Rolling back OS

Apple has, on occasion changed the layout of the hard drive, and created a Recovery Partition for the OS X that it thinks is on the computer. Then Rolling back the OS would require formatting the hard drive, and then Reinstalling the OS. Problematic, not impossible, and no automatic one Click Roll B...

I did not say Bit box was better.

I did not say it was a better means to surf securely than some options that are already available with Puppy Linux. Puppy can have a save file on an optical drive, which can have all the additional programs I want, do not mount main computer hard drive. Put files one downloads to flash drive. Do not...

Faster internet browsing is always interesting.

As I understand the story: Linus Torvalds himself said that a bit of elegant code which was only a few hundred lines, could increase internet browsing speed by a - major amount. This code was to be included in the latest Linux kernel. As I asked, is this new kernel as neat as it sounds like it might...

Latest Ubuntu Kernel

Ubuntu 11.xx beta is supposed to have the Linux kernel which has the big speed increase for web browsers.

Can anyone here offer an opinion as to whether this new kernel is really as neat as some make it sound?

If so, how long will it be before the latest kernel is in Puppy?

Oddities in Puppy 5.2

I created a multi-session CD from Puppy 5.2 on my tower. (Dual Quad Core Q6600 with 4 GB RAM, Using Quick Pet I downloaded and installed Firefox, then Opera and, then Chromium. Opera and Chromium have tabs installed in both Menu/Internet and Menu/Network. Not a biggie. When I used Quick Pet to downl...

For US Robotics Serial External modem I used to use.

For Initialization String 1 "AT&F1" For Initialization String 2 "AT&F1&N21" Then Barry fixed PupDial so it would detect the modem and enter a usable "init string." Perhaps the "init string' is supposed to be entered into Peneggy. Did you ever use Pup Di...

seamonkey cache size may be set from.

Tab labeled "Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Cache" This may help a bit, but not really give an acceptable performance. I have heard some say Opera is faster for some versions of Puppy, but I do not know. Suspect your solution will be as you now know, in the speed that is getting limited by one ...

I am going to look for find a version of Puppy with WINE,

Better would be if someone on the forum would volunteer to compile the latest version of the AOL program for Puppy 4.3.1. Since I can not test it, I am not a good resource for this. Any takers. http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/LinuxTutorialAOL.html That page might be a bit much for a newcomer. There...

I had hoped someone who was using AOL now would jump in and offer advice. I no longer have a hard line, so I can not even attempt to experiment with AOL Dial Up. I may say some things you already know, please be tolerant if I do. Someone may come along later who does not know what you know, so I wil...

Curious

Will the BIOS of this computer boot from a Flash drive? Do you have a Flash drive with Puppy on it. Perhaps someone here can send you one already prepared and proven usable. Where are you? Did this computer come with any means to restore the OS originally on it? Even if it was Windows, if one can re...

Hi, Welcome to the kennels. I am not the most technical competent person here. I am answering because no one else has so far, and I fought with the AOL demon for awhile last year, and to bump up your post up the list. I am going to say some things you probably already know, but I think I should writ...
