the disk is a western digital wd5000aavs with green power. i had tried the tune2fs command previously and it failed to do the operation, complaining about bad superblocks and a few other things... i don't remember what they were now.

well, it was rendered un-mountable by ubuntu. so now i am trying to at least mount it. right now it is doing an

e2fsck -v -b 2654208 -f -y /dev/sda1

but when it is done i will attept to remove the journal and mount it.

umm, my drive shut itself off during a partition shrink/move operation. i upgraded her to puppy 4.12. that seemed to help. the problem was with the pcmcia driver. now i just have to set everything up for her again!

as it says, gparted shows the disk as empty when there are actually 2 partitions on the disk(an ext2 and a swap) the ext2 mounts, but the swap won't. i don't know why. anyone having the same/similar problems? the swap is 5gb and the ext2 is 15gb.

i used the braindead defragger and it works amazing. but it took about 3 hours on my 320gb drive. that is only to be expected.
