Redetection should happen automatically, you'll just need to answer a few questions. There was some talk about this happening with no questions being asked, but has never been implemented. Good luck.

I admire the puppy project greatly, and have high hopes for what it will one day be able to achieve. For now though, I've switched totally to Ubuntu... almost...lol. I still use Puppy for recovering data on other people's computers, and my own... and am planning on teaching others to do the same thi...

Hi folks. Rhadon is spot on... the only thing I'd add is that wine support is great for some programs, not so great for other. Give it a go, and see if you can search the forums, both here and elsewhere. Also, read the Ripple wiki, it's got info about installing openoffice with the tar file I provid...

@Lobster Yeah, Barry mentioned on his blog that he was using the latest test kernel for alpha 3... I hope he only meant for the intrepid puppy iso... that might have something to do with your card problems. I'm very keen to create a pupplet from the alpha release... not perfect, but more than ready ...

Hi tronkel, you can probably replace cups with the puppy version; to my understanding pet packages should work fine. I think there will be numerous issues with various packages from each distro that won't work, but the base development is there. I'm experimenting with the upup iso, and loving the ne...

Thanks mate, that will come in useful. For now I'll stick with the Intrepid build... it's using the latest xorg, and I'm able to test certain pacages on my desktop system... be great to try some of your slackware work when it comes along. I look forward to trying those scripts. Alpha 3 is out! Yay!!...

I'm hoping puppy does turn out to be the best of them, thus the point of this thread... lets think though... for some reason, Ubuntu is one of the most popular distros of all time? I don't believe that's just free cd's, and financial backing. What can we learn from this in Puppy, and what are we abl...

package manager broken in woof
This may have already been noted, but the puppy package manager is broken in Ubuntu woof version of alpha 2. Neither the intrepid main or intrepid universe repositories work. I've tried several times booting into ram, as well as with a save file. Happy to debug this through the console, but what com...

Thanks Jim, definitely looking at that. I gotta agree with aarf though... Ripple works fine for me, and until that changes I'm less motivated than I could be to find a solution. Sorry. If I was using a netbook with a later processor I would have found an answer by now. I like the work that MU and Wo...

@ tempestuous Maybe. It's hard for me to know, as I'm less knowledgeable in this area than others. If anyone gets a chance, give tempestuous's suggestion a try, then get back to us. I've been reading some other forum threads though, and it seems a concensus that xorg 7.3 won't work for these later c...

What can we learn from Ubuntu?
Hi folks, there's been lots of threads about this, but they don't seem very serious. I think this is a great question, and deserves some serious thought. So please, if you're into bashing Ubuntu, go post elsewhere, there are lots of threads on these forums that would appreciate those kinds of posts....

That's a great idea. I think though, using both Ubuntu and Puppy together means we have options... for instance, the printing support truly sucks in Intrepid, and is buggy. Recently I've downgraded my desktop system to Hardy Heron, the previous, and long term service release. If we use the puppy pri...

Not fussed about leaking memory, haven't found this to compromise performance. Puppy isn't created by default to support compiz-fusion, and support for dri is disabled in the xorg.conf script. You'll need to change that. Single line near the beginning of it, I think. As far as I know, xorg 7.4 autoc...

More feedback: Haven't been able to get compiz-fusion working. Downloaded needed pet and sfs file... only manage to get a white screen. Tried various options... what needs to happen wow? I like the idea of the compiz icon appearing onto the desktop, but don't understand what else needs to happen. Yo...

The package management system, ease of use, and the fact that Ubuntu has such a huge community. Lets be realistic here. As much as people like to bash Ubuntu on these forums, this is the most popular linux distribution of all time... perhaps there's a reason... It makes more sense to emulate that in...

Really impressive! I'd no idea you could do so much with lxde. It is starting to become a new favourite for a windows manager. I'm left feeling inspired and a bit awed... the amount of time you've taken to do this must be phenomenal... it makes my humble efforts at Ripple... well... humble...lol. An...
