Did a frugal install to USB from a CD. Rebooted using the USB stick and made the usual changes ( keyboard, language and time) and then left xserver to reboot. Now xserver fails with the following message If you are reading this, then you are at the console without X running. The usual thing now is t...

And that was part of the problem. Gparted didn't give me the option of setting any flags whatsoever :(

@bigpup The key was formatted to ext4 (IIRC) I made two keys ( one for me and one for a co-worker) and I can't remember which key is which in terms of setup. Both keys seem to work well. IIRC my key is formatted to FAT32 with a EXT4 savefile, the other one I'm not so sure. I do remember that it took...

All sorted now. I partitioned the USB stick with a standalone copy of Gparted and set the boot flag. Then installed xenialpup 7.04 frugally. All good apart from shutdown where I get a constant "xenialpup 7.0.4 is now shutting down" which it doesnt do. Not a showstopper but you always worry...

This was looking really good. Wifi working OOTB. I went ahead and did a frugal install to a USB key but my laptop isn't seeing the key. I checked with Gparted and the boot flag does not appear to be set.

Update From running dmesg I could see that there was a call for iwlwifi-8000C-13.ucode but there is no such file in /lib/firmware. I found a copy of the file on the Intel website and loaded it into /lib/firmware. Tried to reboot with a save file but was told that no partition was available  T...

How to change PuppyBang's wallpaper?

I am trying to just change the default wallpaper on PuppyBang to send out CD's to friends of mine. My best Google-fu has failed :( If I can remove all the icons from the screen as well that would be a bonus.

No other changes needed, is this something easy?

Aha!! Updated my version of Yassm to 2.7, edited yassm-select to include the Windows share that I wanted to access and rebooted. And everything now works!!

Thank you for your help ( and this very useful application, which will make my father-in-laws life a little easier)

Nice tool. Only problem I am having is with "automount on boot" Your instructions state 4. Drag the file yassm-automount into your Startup folder. I don't have a yassm-automount file in /usr/local/yassm but do have a samba-automount file. I've had a quick look at it and reckon its the same...

I installed using the Puppy Universal installer. The savefile resides on a different partition. Guess that may answer my question- partition isn't mounted until after Puppy boots and therefore the savefile isn't going to be visible. I'll try making a savefile within the Puppy partition and see if it...

Hi Mick Nice Pup. Installed nicely onto my EEEPC 1000HG. On the way out it created a savefile ( as you'd expect). On reboot I installed Chromium from PPM. Ran into the usual "running Chrome as root" issue. On exit it prompted me ( again) to create a savefile??. Definitely something not rig...

@simargl Thanks for the hint. I changed my keyboard layout in /root/.start to "gb" and all is well. Wireless is working well. Now to tweak to my taste :D Edit- cancel that! Suddenly the keyboard has reverted to its previous state ie typing "p" produces a "-" I hav...

Loving the latest ArchPup. I'm using it on a EEEPC 1000HG netbook. Main issue for me is a keyboard layout issue. Not too sure how I can change what I have to what I need (GB keyboard layout) Pwireless appears to work ( detects my network but I can't connect because of the aforementioned keyboard iss...

Nice work Iguleder. I'm having a couple of problems with GuyDog on my EEEPC 1005. During boot I am offered a monitor resolution of 1024 x 768. I use that but when the netbook boots into the GUI the screen resolution has changed to 800 x600. I have rebooted and ran the "Test" in Video selec...
