Well it boots successfully on a DVD drive connected to SATA but once Puppy is loaded, only the DVD drive can be mounted, Puppy cannot see the HDD connected to the Marvell IDE controller at all.

I have also downloaded, burned and tried to boot from the puppy 3.01 retro CD (the one with the 2.6.18 kernel).

That gives the same error, Puppy cannot find pup_301.sfs after it has loaded the kernel drivers.

Thanks for the ideas. I've been through the BIOS and the only option is to disable the Marvell IDE. Under SATA configuration, the SATA controller (Intel ICH9) can only be configured as IDE or Disabled, there are no other options (this board does not have RAID).
