Thanks musher0, Your reply solved it. I didn't write to the .jwmrc-tray file, I simply removed it and replaced it with the similar file from my 5.6 version. Works perfectly. I always back up completely to another drive on the same PC so apart from my personal files I also have the important system f...

multiple desktops with Precise 5.7 (SOLVED)
Hello, I've just upgraded from Precise 5.6 to 5.7.1 (full installation). I'm unable to create multiple desktops in the tray. I use the GUI to request one row, three columns, click OK and restart X but no extra desktops appear. It worked fine in 5.6, am I missing something? Things have changed. My tr...

Xfce screensaver problem in NOPuppy
Hello, Still using NOP and still delighted, does everything I need and is rock-solid stable. I do like my Xfce screensavers though (I know, resource hungry and all that but I've got plenty of memory and processing power). On my installation it work fine but only if I switch it on for each session. A...

Hello rcrsn51, I use Gimp for manipulating images but Photoprint is by far the most flexible application for printing. I can persuade Glabels to do quite a lot of similar work when I need numbers of small and specifically sized prints which need printing on the reverse side with accurate registratio...

Thanks yet again rcrsn51, PeasyPrint isn't up to the use I have for Photoprint (which involves printing numbers of specifically sized images on the same sheet). Gutenprint is installed (I assume when installing the printer driver) but I installed the Footmatic bit as well, just in case. Launching fr...

A re-install (full) certainly made the difference to the CUPS admin page problem, I accessed it straight away. The LibreOffice SFS installed perfectly this time and my printer works with it. Glabels also installed without problem and prints as it should. My problem now is Photoprint, I've tried two ...

unable to access CUPS admin to add printer (SOLVED)
Full install Puppy NOP precise 5.4.3 Super version of Puppy, would be my No.1 but for my inability to get my printer working. All attempts to get at CUPS admin page result in the Cups Web Interface Help Page. followed in a few seconds by "Could not connect to remote server" Localhost631 ju...

Don 570 and Henry, Thanks for your replies. I did some poking about with dependencies, checking against my standard Puppy Precise and eventually I must have hit it right (more luck than judgment, probably) I could launch from a terminal. From there it was only a few steps to persuade it to launch fr...

Many thanks for NOP precise. After unsatisfactory results installing Xfce on my precise 5.5 I was delighted to see that someone had done it for me. Best of all worlds - Puppy Linux, Xfce desktop, Ubuntu packages. However, there's always a serpent in the garden. Try as I might, I can't get OpenOffice...

I checked around and found that PUPMODE was something to do with init but I still couldn't understand why the same download on the same disc worked perfectly as a full install on the P4 PC. On the 64bit PC I ran fsck on the drive that I was installing Caroline on and there was a superblock problem. ...

Thank you Karl, I'm now going to expose my ignorance to the world. I don't understand your reply. I've searched the web for PUPMODE and found very little and nothing that seemed to point to my problem. A search on this forum produces lots of posts but so far I have yet to find a reference to PUPMODE...

Sorry dancytron,
I was convinced that I'd replied thanking you, obviously not so thank you.
Berryboot does indeed work just fine although the Puppy version for berryboot does have one problem, I can't set the desktop clock. That's an insignificant problem.
Thanks and apologies for the delayed reply.

Carolina 006 zdrv problem full installation SOLVED
Hello, I tried Saluki some time ago and liked it so I thought I'd give Carolina a try. It looks great and it's got Xfce. I installed (full) on to my old 32bit P4 Dell without a problem but when I try it on my main PC (4core AMD 64bit, 8G) it works fine as a live disk and installs OK as a frugal but ...

Raspberry pi Hynix processor
Hello,
I doubt I'm the only one to find this but there doesn't seem to be post elsewhere on the forum.
The latest Puppi SAP that I can get hold of does not work with the new Hynix processor fitted to the Raspberry pi B (512). Apparently it does with the Samsung chip.

Icons vanish from tray or stop working- Lighthouse64 mariner
Hello, This is a new one for me. My installation of Lighthouse64 works perfectly except when I'm doing a long printing job (as I am now). The tray loses all the icons on the left hand side (menu, browser chooser, desktop switcher etc.) and the clock and shutdown button from the right. I'm left with ...

Hello npierce, Thank you for the suggestions. I did a re-install before I read your post so I can't try them out. I would have liked to fix the installation but as I pointed out, time is precious and as I can easily swap from one drive to another then any tinkering becomes an academic pursuit. There...

Hi RSH and darkcity, Thanks for the input. LazY puppy doesn't sound right for me, a little too advanced but thanks for the thought. As far a Precise goes, as I've already updated to 5.4.2, I might just as well reinstall and start again. I back up everything so it's not a problem. My real problem is ...
