Is it really faster than Opera? I don't think so. Chrome is slow as a slug. It may be fast with Javascript and may run Google apps a bit better than the other browsers, but that's all it can do (it's main purpose being a host for Google apps and services) It's the slowest browser on the planet in ev...

- BarryK, how about implementing a new feature in Quirky - 'puppy pfix=temp' ? When this 'cheatcode' is enabled, Quirky searches for an existing Quirky savefile on the hard drive, and if it finds one, it loads the savefile COMPLETELY in RAM as well and then unmounts the drive. Then Quirky continues ...

There's no need to downgrade to 10.10 - just uninstall Michalis' .PET and use the tweaked Opera Lite package created by Synth. He really knows what he's doing when it comes to creating special Puppy-optimized packages :) Download from the quoted message below: A much better Opera package based on to...

Direct Rendering is not enabled jemimah, . We will be preparing a full_xorg package that will have dri/glx. We tested and tested and found no obvious advantage to direct rendering which surprised me greatly since that was one of the original purposes of Karmic/Lucid Puppy. I have come to think that...

Opera has a bug when downloading .pet files from stashbox.org (saves them as .tar.gz). It has problems with .sfs files from distro.ibiblio.org as well (displays gibberish instead of downloading the .sfs) The same 'gibberish' issue also happens when downloading .rar files. This is a crossplatform Ope...

Nooooo! (don't listen to these guys Barry) 'mp' is a *great* console based editor for editing xorg.conf and similar files when you exit from 'X'. The best I've ever used for that purpose. I wouldn't want to see it being removed and replaced with another 'vi'-clone. MP is unique and only available in...

OK, there is a way to bypass the locked file problem in Windows 7 by using an app called YouTube Downloader, but there are still issues with that app: there's no way to download 1080p (Full HD) videos and no option for downloading normal quality (480p) videos. When you download an SD video with the ...

xf86-video-ati-6.13.0-q1.pet tried in q100 - seems to work well but differences are subtle, perhaps better support for xinerama or multi-head. There are some nice improvements and fixes in this driver. Here's a quick'n'dirty changelog: - better support for integrated / notebook ATI graphics chips a...

Why use apps like You2Pup or web services like www.dirpy.com when you can download files from YouTube with Puppy Linux + Opera easily? Just start Opera, load the YouTube page with the video you want to get. Then pause the playback, wait until the video is buffered (loaded) completely. When the video...

Request: ATI Catalyst .PET for Quirky (!)

Has anyone managed to install this driver successfully in Quirky?

The installer always fails to compile the kernel module.
No go even with the latest version (Catalyst 10.7)

Can anyone make a working .PET package?

Now I know what's the problem with the proprietary ATI driver (Catalyst / fglrx 10.4) and Quirky. The kernel in Quirky 1.0 is a bit new (k2.6.33) and Catalyst 10.4 only supports kernels up to 2.6.32. A patch is needed to make it work with the newer kernels. There are patches available for Ubuntu, De...

BarryK, how about updating the xf86-video-ati driver to 6.13.0?

The current one (6.12.6) is very buggy, especially with AGP cards. There were two bugfix releases after that and 6.13.0 is a stable release that additionally fixes a major performance regression of 6.12.6.
