Re: Tapping control with mouse wizard

To all of you frustrated with Puppy's defaulting of touchpad tapping function, You have convinced me that an option to turn tapping off and on would resolve the issue of which should be the default. To impress immigrants from the mainstream OS, I agree that tapping should default to "on"....

24 hours format, preferably with seconds.
Day included with Date - Sat 10th May 2008.

My opinion.

Two versions not needed. Desktops do not have touchpads.

A GUI can certainly help, they are used for mouse, are not they ? Even if needed for once. After all, Puppy is for newbies.

Puppy has come to my rescue many times as Boot CD. Every PC user should keep a Puppy CD, preferably a Puppy FLASH too.

It seems that some developer hates taping only and some other hates scrolling.

@trapster, if I go on using Puppy without my touchpad tap working, I will also remember my shortcut keys. :) I use ALT key in DOS EDIT and ALT+F4 for shutdown in Windows. That is all except for exiting X. Not everyone uses shortcut keys. I have been using computer since Windows 3.1 on 286 and still ...

Users like me use the older versions just because touchpad tap does not work. If you do not save, you have to set it everytime you boot. Or use a mouse.

Thanks Raffy. Puppy 3.01 works. Puppy 2.14 works. PupEee works. It is possible that I have a 'burning' problem with safepup. MD5 was OK but maybe I shall download again.. 2 CDs gone. Got 512 MB RAM. Turion at 2 GHZ. BTW does any version use dynamic CPU frequency control ? I want to see all system pa...

OK, Writing once every 30 minutes is cool. 5 years continuous use of a Flash is good enough. Now the HDD issue. On my laptop I am having very high HDD load cycle count. (No, not with Puppy, shall check in a day or two after using Puppy only ).Now if I unmount (or do not mount) all partitions unless ...

safepup does not boot

I have burned 2 CDs of safepup, MD5 is OK (checked in K3B) but safepup does not boot. Sometimes hangs (blank screen) , sometimes Hard disk boots with installed OS.

Never faced problems with iso burning in past.

Any ideas ?

keeping HDD off

Whenever I boot with CD, Puppy mounts the SWAP. I have 512 MB RAM, so for most work it is rarely used. I want the hard disk to be off, no SWAP, maybe SWAP used only when needed, manual enabling/mounting is OK. I can increase RAM to 1 GB if required. I want to boot from Flash. But I do not want any a...

Thanks John. TEENPup is a talked-about distro now. Thanks Lobster, I am going through the site. TEENPup is now like a full-fledged distro. A different concept. My idea is to learn Linux, start by remastering. My idea is to have a ELTIPUP, a Puppy for laptops. Not Hard disk installation, but CD/DVD o...

I have some clear objectives- 1) Run on laptop using minimum power, use dynamic frequency scaling if supported. 2) Fast boot from USB flash. 3) No use of hard disk (but provision to mount can be considered). 4) No auto save to extend Flash life. 5) A better file manager. Something like nautilus. ROX...

Remastering - which version should I use ?

I want to remaster puppy for fast boot with limited applications.
I do not want it to use SWAP till RAM (512MB) gets full.

Which one should I use, 2.14 or 3.01 ? Or any other ? Or 2.17 (I shall have to download that).

TEENPUP is being talked about in Ubuntu forums too.
It has been loved by those who have tried it.
But 400+ MB iso and 192 MB RAM requirement does not make
it a small distro like Puppy.

Just burn Puppy Linux to a CD using 'burn image' command. Set your bios to boot from CD and power up with CD in CD/DVD drive. It will load to your RAM and run from it. It does not matter if you have a harddisk or not. You can remove the Puppy CD after it loads and runs and use the CD/DVD drive too. ...
