Well, I've changed my mind because I didn't intend this HowTo thread to become a general discussion thread nor deal with any XenialDog matters. I've thus opened two threads in Projects area afterall (if only to allow continuation of this discussion whilst not polluting DebianDog HowTo area. But I've...

Note to forum moderator. This thread should remain unlocked since it is the main HowTo resource for the DebianDog/XenialDog projects and is incomplete awaiting new additions. As far as Toni's (saintless) request to delete his account on Puppy Linux: Clearly Toni is under stress and it would be compl...

Since I currently have no plans to do any further development work, it might be useful to anyone taking over DebianDog project to list the small system contributions I have made, so that work can be more easily maintained: I replaced the original (insecure) chpupsocket system script (by Fred?) with ...

Come to think of it... if you want the smallest possible system then the kernel should be compiled for a specific machine, for its specific hardware, for efficiency and to avoid the need for unnecessary external-to-kernel hardware driver modules. Otherwise, any kernel, for general use has to be some...

Hi Toni, A bit off-topic on my part (well definitely off-topic since not woof-ce, just kernel related): I have had a similar thought about tiny core linux who also compile their own kernel even for dCore which otherwise relies mainly on underlying Debian/Ubuntu reps. Wish they just used standard Deb...

Re: OpenEmbedded: compile Puppy from source
Also, OE could totally replace Woof*, but that is very much down the track. Since it takes a significant investment in time to learn or maintain any build system the well-supported OpenEmbedded system described here seems to me like a very good way forward indeed for Puppy. I realise OE will have a...

Sorry, you seem to be in the wrong topic area - this is for Puppy Projects (mainly distributions). Applications have their own threads and there are also threads for helping users reachable from main Forum index. I don't know which screencaster you are referring to either. Maybe resubmit in relevant...

Perhaps could be a RAM problem - maybe in higher memory than BIOS accesses. You could try re-seating the memory (take it out and put it back in again with machine off of course). If the 2 GB is in two sticks of 1 GB each could also maybe try and see if you can boot with either of these in if re-seat...

Hmmm... just read that the plastic ends up converted to ethylene glycol (antifreeze...). Alas that ethylene glycol is more than a little toxic (and can apparently cause abnormal births if pregnant women exposed to its fumes as far as I've read elsewhere). Perhaps I'm missing something about this won...

Something random --- If you have dreams of recording an 18 hour video with Pavrecord in Slacko, don't be surprised if the audio stops recording at exactly 3:20:53 (3 hours, 20 minutes, and 53 seconds) while the video continues to record. I tried this twice, saving to /mnt/sda2/capture (not in ram) ...

I think you just mean to add /opt hierarchy to PATH and modify pet2deb to using /opt Then what about library-path, add e.g. /opt/lib or keep /usr/local/lib ? Fred Yes, for my needs in tinycore I will add /opt hierarchy to the end of the PATH and modify pet2deb to use /opt. For most apps I realise i...

opt hierarchy and setting PATH more generally
I'm still mulling over the pet2deb situation. I note that you store all the converted binaries in /usr/local hierarchy. But I remember in earlier DebianDog /opt hierarchy was used instead, apparently to remove possibility of such files as converted dotpets clashing with Debian files of same name? C...
