Puppy web boot
Sunburnt, like Gabev I have been away from this webboot/Lanpuppy topic for a while, but I am always kicking it around. You and I have talked a few times and I have tried one of your lanpuppys. As I mentioned last year, I think a doable lan boot is a proxy web boot via Open WRT router (http://en.wiki...

PXE booting Puppy from my router
I finally got my new WRTSL54GS Linksys router setup with open source (http://www.thibor.co.uk/) firmware. This router has a USB storage link that hooks up to external hard drives. I have been wanting to load Lanpuppy on the router and SAMBA mount the storage device. It uses DNSMASQ and I have been h...

In the spirit of small and lightweight apps, I have loaded Astlinux on a thumbdrive and booted it up first time, no probs....but! [big but]...astlinux is a stripped down version of asterisk that is so small and text based, that you would have to know how to hand edit lots of config files and know as...

Net booting, streaming, media back & Frontend, w/ MythTV
Zonkle, I have been looking into a similar setup. Ambitious I know, but hey, here goes. First a WRT SL type router with PXE server handing out LANPUPPY clients and serving media content over Streams and FTP and linked to a Mythbackend for PVR. Mythfrontend that pxe boots to deliver content to TV. As...

Great news on NTFS, but also concerned
I use Puppy on my mission critical Workstation that has an NTFS partition on it by booting from CD or USB. I have always felt a certain degree of safety that my Windows HDD won't be damaged, because of the NO WRITE to NTFS rule in Puppy linux. When I read about the auto mount abilities for the new N...

That would be convenient to keep the router in the box with the Modem. Unfortunately I have to keep mine centrally located for wireless for the kids. As we were talking about having additional storage on the Linksys WRT, I saw a mod that you can add a SD card to an existing WRT router and then easil...

Sunburnt, I think the NAS device you are refering to is the NSLU2 which is a very popular device to mod with alternative linux firmwares. http://www.nslu2-linux.org/ It has the benefit of being a network storage device but needs to be plugged into a router so, in essence, it has the multiple plugged...

Sunburnt, You are right, some of these NAS devices can be spendy. I know the new Terabyte box can PXE boot, has wifi, and 1.6 Tb, but its $700, before loading up on drives. I was aiming a bit cheaper. I have been considering devices like the Linksys WRTSL54GS which is just under $100. http://www.eho...

Diskless booting Puppy from a Router (PXE, WRT, DHCP)
I have been looking into the Open WRT project which includes numerous Linux mods to mostly the Linksys WRT54G router that adds enhancements to the existing firmware. Would it be possible to load a small bootstrap PXE server that could serve up the Puppy kernel, redirect to a TFTP server for usrcram ...

"USB DISK 2.0" once booted, now it doesn't..tried
I picked up a few 128mb usb thumbdrives at a trade show, all identical. I loaded puppy 2.0 alpha and it booted fine many times. I put in another one of these thumbdrives and booted it not realizing that this particular one still had the old "non bootable" data from the trade show (i.e cata...

John Murga, Thanks for your response. I was considering running the server part on a Linux box, rather than the Graphics intensive front end, but I believe you may be right regarding the complexity, especially for a newbie like me. Furthermore, a huge program like that may fly in the face of the phi...

I regret that I posted my request for assistance
I was going to apologize for posting the original request for help on installing the America's Army game, but I don't have any reason to. I asked for advice on a few commands on how to install a simple game that happened to be free. I think I'm old enough to handle Brain washing or even a light rins...

firefox gmail file space extension
If you download Firefox 1.5, try the gmail space extension here... http://www.rjonna.com/ext/gspace.php.
It uses your gmail account with 2.5 gigs of space as file storage. Great for my flash puppy that has no hard drive.

Booting Pup 1.05 from LS-120 drive
I have been trying to setup Puppy Linux 1.05 on a LS-120 on my laptop. It does not have the capability to have CD installed at the same time as LS120, since they are interchangable. Can't boot to my USB thumbdrive from bios, so I have been trying to load from the win98 HD boot up to load files and f...
