media player wary

Just the sort of Puppy I needed. I've used your VLC for a while now but it always froze my toshiba portege laptops. This Wary version works perfectly.

Thanks ever so much :D

laptop boot

I've booted Puppy on a laptop with a failing hard drive. Not from USB but the same principle would apply in that Puppy searches for Pup save files while booting up. If the hard drive is recognised it will scan it. However, since the hard drive is failing this will take a very long time. I suggest pu...

thanks

Working well on Puppy 431. I tried an older tuxpaint before finding this post and it didn't work (missing libs). Many thanks for providing this - my children recently discovered tuxmath and enjoy this software a lot.

backups

Backing up is a Good Thing - so much easier than trying to sort out the mess otherwise when something goes wrong. So I install two puppies on every machine which I use or setup. One is the 'working' puppy and the other is intended only to allow backups to be made. I usually create a separate partiti...

pulp

yes background pic not such a problem and having a terminal 'button' means I didn't miss the icons too much. These pentium ii portege notepads have only usb1 though and so my workaround is to transfer files via my Ubuntu samaba server. Which was not possible in pulp without Pnethood (at least not po...

pulp

Hi, good to see that Pulp development is continuing. I managed to download Pulp from a rapidshare link (wordpress with pwget kept restarting after 6mb of the download) and am impressed by the concept and speed at which it runs. I coordinate a re-use project for older computers and personally have br...

portege

Puppy 431 runs well in the portege with 128mb ram. I even use wine and faststone imageviewer. Only one window at a time though.... The optical drive which came with my machine didn't work though so the way I install is to remove the hard drive from the toshiba. Use a laptop hard drive adaptor to con...

vmware puppy

Thanks for this. Seems 700mb ram is a reasonable minimum to get this working well on XP. It is a fact of life that XP is so dominant - to be able to subvert that by running Puppy in Windows is truly a grand achievement :D

Puppy with Firefox

Really enjoying your versions of puppy - thanks Ttuuxxx

Posting this from 214x9 running responsively on a PIII compaq deskpro with 128mb ram. Most of the machines at the Recycling Centre here are penium 4s now. Most using Puppy as an os with much success.

pwget

What a great version of Puppy. Already running well on a couple of older machines. I've checked out all the other options I can find (there are a lot!) and Puppy is the most usable, stable and good looking distro available with this revision2 by ttuuxxx being my 1st choice. Pwget is broken though an...

I tried starting Pwget and it didn't work. Could be a bad download but not likely. Perhaps someone else could check too. Cheers.

puppy on the web

More ram is the only way I know to get a responsive machine. Puppy is also my first choice for operating system and Firepup is a good choice for web browser. On a faster machine I prefer Opera.

alpha 2 testing

The first alpha of 4.2 burnt to CD and booted on two out of three machines I tried it on. This second alpha does not boot - and like others in this thread I set it up as a frugal install and it is running ok. I also have problems with desktop icons not launching appications. Not working: Chat, Zip (...

no sound when previously working with 4.1.1 and 4.0

On my gigabyte motherboard 4.1.1 uses intel8x0 8086:24d5(rev02) for sound. ie. Puppy has sound via the built in audio. Did a frugal install of 4.2alpha today - no sound. Ran the setup for sound a couple of times. An error message flashed up very quickly. Not possible to get sound. Checked 4.1.1 agai...
