I am testing a new laptop (Compaq Presario CQ62). Living Water 2.17 is the only Puppy that will run on it. Unfortunately, I can get the wireless to work. It simply doesn't see the built in wireless. Of course I am using an earlier version of Living Water. Does the most recent version work well on a ...

Truthfully, its not the job of the government to provide health care in this country. It wasn't written into the Constitution or the amendments. Especially given that the Obama health care plan costs several trillion that we don't have. Where do they expect to get that money? Taxes? Given the curren...

I tried basic linux before discovering puppy, and it still works for me. Rather than deal with floppies, download the file bl3-50.zip from the BL3 site ( http://volny.cz/basiclinux ). This zip archive contains README.TXT SWAP.ZIP FS.IMG (20MB ext2) INITFS.GZ (gzipped ext2 filesystem) BOOT.BAT LOADL...

Household hint from FaceBook

I can't verify that these work, but I plan to try a couple of them soon. 1. Budweiser beer conditions the hair 2. Pam cooking spray will dry finger nail polish 3. Cool whip will condition your hair in 15 minutes 4. Mayonnaise will KILL LICE, it will also condition your hair 5. Elmer's Glue - paint o...

Re: Is this fungus a Death Cap?

Bit difficult to do horror on a lovely sunny English day but I tried :? Maybe I should have gone up town and filmed some of the politicians and BP building? :) Probably sell more tickets. BP affiliate ARCO is starting to lose money, and you can see it here in Tacoma when they sell fuel at $2.65 a g...

I attempted to add Basic Linux to the /custom directory on UBCD4.11. Result? It starts to load and then asks for the second disk. Unfortunately, I don't know how to get the *.IMG to recognize that DISK2.TGZ is there in the /custom directory. I wonder if I need to also add DISK2.TGZ to the *.cfg file...

That's an interesting approach. The laptop does support CD boot so running Puppy is possible (though slow). I can possibly get it to support a wireless connect to download the DISK1.IMG and DISK2.TGZ files. I may try that first this evening and then try the make an ISOLInux CD approach if that doesn...

GrayCat is a UMSDos distro. You have to have MSDos on your system or it won't work. I tried to run it in an emulator once. Not happening.

nooby, Basic Linux is partly based upon Slackware 4.0 and can use package from such. However, the ISO file alone is 649Mb. I doubt that it would run very well if at all on the Gateway given its limited ram. Also, I have attempted to use a USB floppy drive to boot the Gateway from floppy and it seems...

For what I am doing, DSL is bloatware. As for DOS, not a chance. Also, as I understand it, an emergency boot disk is only good if you have a floppy drive and if I had a floppy drive on this particular laptop, I wouldn't have this problem. I may try seeing if the hard drive from the Gateway will fit ...

Non-Puppy Linux Problem

I am attempting to install Basic Linux 3 on a Gateway Solo 2000. Problem is that it does not have a floppy drive nor do I have floppy drive that will work with it. I have tried burning the *.IMG and *.TGZ files to a CD-RW but to no avail. I want to use Basic Linux on this laptop as Puppy runs really...

I usually clone my drives by booting up a copy of Puppy 2.0 then then copying everything over and then using the Grub BootLoader Config program. Works everything.

I have noticed, as I am sure other have, that there those times when the topic is about a Linux distro other than Puppy. Perhaps we can put a sub-forum in the Off-Topic area for other Linux Distros? While I wouldn't expect it to get a lot of use, it would certainly make it easier for people to ask q...

I still use Puppy as my primary system. However, I have started messing around with Slackware based BasicLinux again. I tried a floppy based debian derivative once called 'Debian Ham". It was horrid. I don't want to deal with another debian base again.

Re: Spoof site?

Or is my irony-detector in dire need of recalibration? I seriously doubt it is just irony. I read through all the posts the user has and noticed a pattern of hatred of Linux and Linux users. Amongst other things, I feel he fails to recognize that sometimes bleeding edge software actually runs effic...

I've still got a 0.7 disc somewhere around here. I used it to run my tower for six months without a hard drive. I wonder how hard it would be to install grub to a hard drive after installing Puppy 0.7?
