Password for encrypted savefile visible

I just created a usb installation of 4.00 using the universal installer and saved to an encrypted partition. However when I boot up and enter the password, the letters typed are completely visible. This seems a bit strange. Is this a bug or a feature? Seems that it was noticed by zigbert here as wel...

1) No, unfortunately I never did get to the bottom of why 2.16/17 didn't work.
I took a break and instead spent my time learning how to compile a kernel with Slackware.

2) Yes, 3.01 is going great and solves the problem.

Just to finalise things, I just frugal installed puppy 3.01. Works perfectly. I also appreciated the improvements to the universal installer very much - an entry for sata hard drives, the option to install all the files to a folder (nice), and the auto-generated gub menu entry (very nice!). All is n...

Ok, I deleted all the old files, vmlinuz, initrd.gz etc (except for the savefile), copied all the new files from the 2.17 cd (it copied some of them automatically on bootup, great), and tried to boot. Still the same bloody error. Can still boot off the 2.17 cd. I tried adding 'puppy=/dev/sda7' in th...

Hmm I dont think so, I havn't yet used the 2.17 livecd on my laptop or else it would have updated the savefile. I may just delete it all except the savefile and install 2.17.

Changed grub entry to kernel=/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 PMEDIA=satahd Sorry guys, no luck. Still hangs with the same error. I didn't try copying the files to sda1 as it is some Dell diagnostic partition which I would prefer not to touch. Also, when I boot off the cd, it appears to load pup_216.sfs dire...

Frugal install refuses to boot

I have had a frugal install of 2.16 working fine for the past couple of months, however last night when I tried to boot up I found it now crashes. It gets as far as: Looking for puppy in sda1..(etc) Using personal data file pup_save2fs which is on partition sda7. Loading swap partition /dev/sda6 ERR...

Xlock crashes X server

I have a frugal hard drive install of 2.16 and when I try to lock the screen X crashes and I have to exit to the command line and restart X. Also, when I restart X server from the menu it crashes as well.

I use Fluxbox as a window manager might this have something to do with it?

Got it! I put the line

rox -p /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin &

in the Fluxbox startup script ~/.fluxbox/startup instead of in xinitrc. I have to change the wallpaper in the PuppyPin file but thats not too much of a pain. Thanks guys.

Yeah that sort of works. Now I get my icons but the wallpaper is always set to the default puppy pic.

Hmmm.... In xinitrc, is it necessary to start the window manager last? Could I try starting rox after fluxbox? I was thinking just tack an & on the end of the exec $CURRENTWM stuff and and then cut-and-paste the rox startup stuff after it. Or maybe cut-and-paste all the ROX startup stuff from xi...

Fluxbox covers up my ROX pinboard

I decided to change my window manager to fluxbox and downloaded the dotput from the link on the wiki main page. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=1194596371&t=12033 importing the menu with jwmtofluxbox worked fine but when I start up, I see my ROX desktop for a second and ...
