Thanks for that Earthray. I deleted my 214x directory and save file and started again. However ,I still have the problem of saving to the save file. I believe that only the stuff that was saved when I set it up ie wifi, xorg etc. After that nothing seems to be saved properly. There are odd things t...

[EDIT] I found my old post - I had reported that Geany was not saving settings, although I'm sure I've had that problem with htop (perhaps not with 214X). The shutdown message I got was: tail: cannot open '+2' for reading: No such file or directory Never found out the cause. UPDATE: Yes, exact same...

Re: Classicpup Problem

Dear all, Plus mut2 & pmount seems to take forever to load. This issues seem to happen when i boot without the 'acpi=off, apm=on' parameter. Hi samira, Classicpup use an old kernel version, It could have problems related to the detection system for new hardware that cause the slowdown of the bo...

The slow problem playing youtube videos on Puppy 2.14X could be related to the old Xorg version used. You could try to tune the xorg configuration file, please read my post about the test I made on 2.14X http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=50428 . Finally found time to test it. Adding thes...

Hi, I have searched for the individual kernel patchs used on 2.6.18.X, just found some notes on http://puppylinux.com/development/compilekernel.htm : "Puppy 2.12 has kernel 2.6.18.1 and has three patches; squashfs, default console loglevel and via shutdown fix." BarryK additional notes: &q...

That toughbook -- if the specs I found are correct -- should run a lot of newer Puppies / Puplets just fine. You don't need ClassicPup for a Pentium M! (It's really more for P2/P3 hardware -- and then only if you're quite patient.) Nah, 2.14X takes my Athlon 1.8 Ghz built in 2003 to its limits, eve...

Re: Savefile bug report and fix

I decided to install 2.14X Top10 on my vintage 1999 Panasonic Toughbook CF-T2 - Welcome to Jurassic Computing , I had played around with 2.14X as a live distro before, but never tried a frugal install. Works great except . . . I found a bug! My savefile seems to keep most of my settings, but not al...

Linux is faster than Windows

I just found this article:

http://www.zdnet.com/anonymous-msft-dev ... 000015236/

And its consistent with the information that I posted here about poor Windows scheduler implementation:

Just reading about Linux Scheduling system

Just reading about Linux Scheduling system

Just reading about Linux Scheduling system and found this URL: http://bitsum.com/about_probalance.php Take care about the following notes on this site, pointing to a robust Linux scheduler system against the poorly one on Windows: "What's the problem? Windows has a particularly bad problem deal...

I saw a tablet propped up on a table and thought of a wireless key. and mouse. Then on Yahoo a video of a guy walking into work with a tablet, props it up on the desk, pulls out a key. and mouse and goes to work. I thought... Now that`s the future! A device that can do both jobs in one. . Are you t...

The grabbing of a save-file occurs if one, and only one, save-file is found. Otherwise a choice of found save-files is offered. Just skimming through initrd_sbin/init, I'd say that the absolutely simplest way to avoid the automatic, possibly disastrous, grabbing of a save-file is to always offer a ...

To make a long story short, it seems I had changed the router to use AES encryption instead of TKIP. I changed it to TKIP and all is well now. Perhaps this is an opportunity to improve 214X; some people have not be able to use 214X wirelessly, possibly for the same reason as I had. Is it possible t...

Hi ttuuxxx, well, there is always a small risk present changing gtkdialog as it´s an important/extensive component. I don´t habituate to mix such kind of changes (in this case GTK and gtkdialog) releasing new software and don´t wan to affect latest stable 214X either. Anyway pnethood 0.6.8.1 detects...

Hi ttuuxxx, I didn´t find any backward problem with the r14 release posted here, it should replace the default gtkdialog executable in usr/sbin without problems on 214X. I apologize, I didn´t check what default path is used for each Puppy version so I used the default one when I compiled the source....

Hi ttuuxxx, You are right if we use the latest gtkdialog release using "gtkdialog" name, some compatibility issues could be araise in a number of indetermined scripts. The gtkdialog4 convention is used just for test purpose I think... Hmmm, We could use one of the first gtkdialog versions ...
