One thing I have been wondering about Simon. I know Motion can be compiled to work with mysql. However, Puppy Linux 2.17.1 seems to come with sqlite3 (version 3.3.5). Do you know if that could be usefully used with Motion at all? Would maybe save having to install mysql, for example, in order to ge...

Hi crafty, Good to have some feedback anyway. I compiled it on the EPIA M10000 so perhaps there was some CPU optimization in the binary after all. Ah, just spotted you were using 2.6.18.1 kernel. Grafpup 2.00, which I am using, has 2.6.20... that might be it. Glad it's all working now. Tweaking the ...

Just saying hi. I normally dwell in the Grafpup section here and on 'the other place' (linux-questions.org) I have been using 'motion' under Grafpup on a VIA EPIA system since Spring 2007 and before that on a Linksys NSLU2 running Openslug. It's task is a security camera and file server, I wrote scr...

Just saying hi. I have been using 'motion' under Grafpup since Spring 2007 and previously on a NSLU2 running Openslug. I'm quite familiar with the motion program so can offer configuration help or tips if needed. I run a 3 IP camera system myself. I've also written a couple of patches for motion (Ke...

Just to let everybody know, a new Grafpup forum is open on Linuxquestions.org and that seems to be the place where support questions for the new Grafpup 2.0rc1 are going on.

Bit of an update on this one: Sat May 05, 2007 6:48 pm Post subject: In case you haven't already done it, I've attached a version of rc.shutdown in which all occurences of snapmergegrafpup have been changed to snapmergepuppy. The good news is, now on the compact flash hda system, a static ip setup i...

Just adding points here as I find them. Whenever you get to them, it's ok. When I log in via ssh, I get an attempt to start Slim.... and then get logged out. This only happens when no-one is logged in at the actual machine - it is sitting at the login screen. This must be down to the fact that X is ...

Want to install "vi" on your Puppy?
The classic editor! You'll need to compile it, so you'll need the devx sfs too, but if you take the following source: http://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/ex-vi/ex-050325.tar.bz2 Edit the Makefile to suit (it's too early to have a configure script) ; make ; make install. Also install the follo...

Yep, each time I killed X, it came back at a different resolution! Not sure if that's intended, but it eventually arrived at the correct res. I'm sure the Grafpup script is retrying X, but I don't know why it changes res though. If someone else could repeat that, it would confirm something. I usuall...

Regarding the beta iso coming up on my VIA EPIA machine from a cold boot into what looks like 640x480 res, I found that Ctrl-Alt-Backspace caused it to cycle through resolutions. I eventually got 1024x768 and it took me 2 entries of username/pw to get logged in, but I got in. I also found (reported ...

Nathan, (and plinej I have tried your remaster script) I am seeing some error messages in /tmp/bootsysinit.log like this: /usr/sbin/savepuppyd: line 25: [ : Unary operator expected I think they relate to use of the shell variable $PUPMODE in the script savepuppyd, which is now $GRAFMODE isn't it? Just to say I've updated the message above regarding libdts - the repo packages didn't work for me. I downloaded a new copy including source and compiled it locally, that worked. Also updated the message above with the results of my remastered Grafpup CD. Bad news I'm afraid, not quite sure why - bu...

Report on Remastering using pupremaster.sh It seemed to work well, I have created an iso and burnt it to CD. I had to use a roundabout method to remaster so I thought I'd explain the steps necessary if you don't have a CD drive on your Puppy machine! Grafpup System: VIA EPIA motherboard, Grafpup bet...

I've found a couple more things (sorry Nathan!): When I first boot up my VIA EPIA machine with Sata drive and CF boot media, Grafpup always comes up in (what looks like) 640x480 mode. It might be 800x600 but is a shock compared to the expected 1024x768. Looking round for clues I spotted an error mes...

The issue with the missing icons has to do with the fact that the icons have to be cached to a directory in /tmp. ... Anyway it's a bug I've known about for a couple weeks now, but the solution may not be totally straightforward. No problem. I can live with it - after all it will be a mostly unatte...
