OK, Think about the problem a different way. We are not sure if puppy can do what you want. Why not move a couple of GBs of stuff off the hard drive onto a DVD, keep the DVD with the data in the drive and use the space on the HDD for puppy? Thanks. A better (but more expensive) solution which I thi...

Its a while since I've used multi-session. After you've booted can you use menu - setup CD/DVD Drive Wizard to change the settings of what the default burner is? I tried to do this but it did not work. Maybe I did something wrong? Puppy still insisted on saving to the CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. See my re...

If you open the computer and swap the two drives, would the BIOS then boot from the DVD burner drive? To answer your question directly, I don't know any way to boot from one drive and save to a different drive, but I don't see why it couldn't be done. After all, you can save to a USB flash drive. I...

Pup_save to different CD/DVD drive

Hello, Some background: I have a Dell c840 laptop. This machine has 1GB of memory, a very limited, 40GB HDD, which is full, a CD-RW/DVD-R drive and a CD/DVD RW drive. After playing with Puppy 2.14 for about a week I have already had to remaster because I had no space left on the boot CD. I can make ...

NTFS from DOS

A further possibility is the excellent utility NTFS4DOS from www.datapol-technologies.com which will both read and write to NTFS partitions from DOS. It is free for personal use. When NTFS4DOS launches it requires that "yes" be input to a use question that is displayed. It also comes with ...

How to calculate MD5 checksums in Windows

One of the problems for the new Puppy Linux user is to be able to checksum the file he/she has just downloaded. There are a number of posts in this forum and in the 2.14 manual that describe how to do this in Linux or in DOS. But the new Puppy user eager to try it has probably downloaded in Windows ...

Bash reference (downloadable)

I found this downloadable pdf book (695pp) that is oriented to bash scripting but provides a good introduction to bash commands and usage as well. Best of all it is available free in pdf format (and as a tarball also) at http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/abs-guide.pdf Read, learn and enjoy. My kudos to th...

Working Wireless cards

I have had success with the ipw2200 driver in Puppy 2.14 for both Intel 2915abg and Intel 2200bg cards. The driver only supports the 2915 in b and g modes not a. Good enough for me. Installation was straightforward without problems. javascript:emoticon(':D')

Clipboard saver

I second this request. In Windows I use a utility called ClipTrak which was a freebie from PCMag many years ago (started using it in Win95osr2,98,98SE,2k,XP). It has a cache file and a saved file and the maximum number of items stored in each is specified in a "settings" menu together with...

Puppy 215 Office Beta1

Hello, I originally posted the following to the thread announcing the availability of Puppy 215CE. Since it reports bugs found on an initial go at 215 Ofiice Beta1 it more properly belongs here. So, here is the repost: A great effort. I downloaded it and gave it a whirl last night. Good things: the ...

Puppy 215 Office Beta1

Hello, I posted several bugs and minor cosmetic problems here. It strikes me that I really should have posted it in the Bugs forum and I have reposted it there.

Puppy 215 Office Beta1

A great effort. I downloaded it and gave it a whirl last night. Good things: the puppy reference and Opera included. OOo worked as advertised. I got connected to my wireless network and set up my printer just like 2.14 no problems. Bugs I encountered. 1. Xvesa seems to get caught in a loop but event...

Fixed??

Today I do not have the problem - the clock is running. I am in the Eastern time zone. I have applied a patch to all my machines running Windows that took care of the extended DST nonesense. The one hour example was just that. I could have said 37m27s (or whatever the actual delay was: some 3 hours ...

Real time clock

Downloaded Puppy 2.14 and burned to a multisession CD. Booted on a Dell C840 laptop like a charm. The display has a nVidia GeForce4 440 chipset that supports 1600x1200 but xorg says "command not found" at this resolution. Runs fine at 1400x1050. Detects my USB mouse properly and I set up m...
