Apparently the Asus EEE contains a recent Atheros chipset, AR5007EG, with device ID 1a3b:1026. The MADWiFi driver does not yet support this particular wifi chipset. We will need to monitor developments there. In the meantime, the solution is to use ndiswrapper, version 1.49, as Hacao reported here ...

If you use Firefox, Google does NOT have to be your default homepage, even if you use it frequently. That's what the little 'Search' box is for on the top r.h.s. If you have an aversion to the dubious business practices of Google and Yahoo, Firefox offers a plethora of alternative search engines (I...

Assuming your save file is still readable to a certain extent, this thread may come in handy. It's a bit messy, but you should be able to figure it out. Make sure you follow Bruce_B's instructions, not my original ones. First of all, back up your corrupted but precious pup_save before you attempt th...

The easy way out would be to rum amule as root, but you probably have your reasons for not doing that. I checked Ubuntu's man page for mount, and it lists these options (among others) re mounting FAT filesystems: uid=value and gid=value Set the owner and group of all files. (Default: the uid and gid...

I feel bad about getting involved in your howto, but There are some errors, which would prevent it from working or lead to some user confusion. How about fixing it and I'll delete the critique? If you _don't_ need thumbnail functionality, I recommend qiv. Also available as a DotPup. Once you learn the keyboard commands, it is the fastest of the bunch. It is started from the command line and takes a directory or a file as the argument, like this: qiv . qiv /mnt/hda3/pictures qiv pictures/fa...

Re: Save File Filling Up

Using Puppy 3.0,I started a new pup_save file (512mb) and deleted the old one. Then I installed a program (snotes), which reduced the free space on the file to 403 mb. That was fine. But then I decided I didn't need snotes and deleted it, using the appropriate wizard. I then went through the files ...

Very strange problem indeed, I think you're the first to report something like that. Linux does have another way of getting to a console. Press Ctrl and Alt and F2 at the same time. This _should_ bring up a black screen with a line saying: puppypc login: If you can see this, good. (If not, press Ctr...

Do you use the Cisco VPN client to connect? If so, things should be pretty straightforward. Yes, there is a Linux version for Cisco VPN; Puppy 2.15 works with version 4.800. You will need the devx_(puppyversion).sfs because installing Cisco VPN requires the kernel headers. Run the install script. Ma...
