Superb answer, clear and precise, exactly what I needed. Very many thanks Bigpup. Hope you'll all be pleased to know that today I will be installing Tahrpup on my main machine in place of Mint 13. Mint seems to have lost it's direction and fun. Puppy is fun and has got serious, a worthy replacement....

Re: problem with Browse on new install
tahrpup 6.0 CE noPAE full install Slight disappointment though when I click Browse. At first it can't find the default Palemoon so I manually had to download Firefox from the desktop 'Quickpet'. I also downloaded (well tried to!) Calibre from the Puppy Package Manager and whilst it is listed in the...

I was playing with an installed version of Tahr Puppy 6.0 (non pae) last weekend so hopefully this will help you. Go to Pets on the lower desktop and then click on PPM (Puppy Package Manager). You can use the search box if you know roughly which program you want but beware, Puppy doesn't install all...

Thanks to both of you. P/moon won't run at all so I think a bad burn is a probable cause. If I download the ISO again what do I need to type into a terminal to check that the MD3 or SHA codes match the ones on the download page? I realise that it won't match the final CD. Two other queries, in Mint ...

Change swapiness setting in Tahrpup
I installed Puppy Linux 6.0 "Tahrpup" edition on an old laptop yesterday that has only about 800 MB of RAM and a slow CPU - it's an old 'made for early XP machine. Is there a way anyone has found of changing the swapiness value in Tahrpup because I have low ram. In Linux Mint the default s...

think of tips that would help newbies
One question which bothers many Linux users is why does Puppy boot into root rather than a user account (ie guest)?

Re: NETGEAR WG311v3 working in Puppy Linux 4.2.1
An interesting note my wireless adapter NETGEAR WG311v3 working fine in Puppy 3.01 series, via NDISWAPPER, NEVER worked in Puppy 4.1, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2 now, in puppy 4.2.1, seems working without pains. today, (I'll reply tomorrow to make a double check) I had that problem with my Cisco Linksys USB ...

Thanks guys, I might have a play first on another computer so if I mess up it won't matter. Please don't take this the wrong way, but having installed other distros like Pclinux, Mandriva, and Fedora, it's just a bit worrying that another nice one, Puppy, doesn't seem to include an automatic, stress...

How to replace Mandriva with Puppy?
I really like Puppy 4.1 and it's nicer than my existing Mandriva 2009. :D I run a dual boot system on a single hard drive, Win XP and Mandriva, and I'd really like to substitute Mandriva for Puppy. The question is how? I'm not "au fait" with command line working and am nervous of using man...

Gparted is a graphical tool meant to be intuitive, but it doesn't know what you intend to do with the tool, ..... You also mentioned FDISK in DOS, that's easy because it gives you all the info of what it's found and gives you as defaults, the best options. It also formats the drive in just one way ...

>It sounds to me like this guy did not create a partition using Gparted for the universal installer to use. Correct. Having not used Gparted before I didn't know how to use it and there aren't any user friendly instructions. Also, it asked what sort of partion I wanted, ie FAT, FAT32, Linux swap, et...

At this point in the discussion, I feel I must bow out. My only reason for coming to the forum was to bring to someone's attention a potential fault in the Puppy installer, which I have now done. For my purposes an operating system or distro is merely an interface between myself and the computer, al...
