Does anyone have ANY softphone working properly with Puppy Linux? Yes, I have SJphone, X-lite and Twinkle working with no problem. Current versions of Zoiper are not a good choice unless you compile it yourself as I think the only binaries they offer now are compiled for specific distributions. Sjp...

There's also Xarchiver (not to be confused with Xarchive). It's still a small application in size but is much better than its similarly named compatriot.

Re: Why I use Seamonkey

I did briefly try Seamonkey 6 months ago, and was dismayed to rediscover (time and time and time again!) that the designers in their wisdom placed Seamonkey's close current tab button right where Firefox users are habituated to finding the open new tab button.    Given that...

Working sound settings not saved with Puppy 5.1.1

I'm confused by this. When I start up Puppy Lupu I only have mono audio (and the cooling fan doesn't work). If I run Alsa Sound Wizard then I get stereo audio and the fan comes on. However, on reboot I get mono audio and no fan again. I haven't encountered an audio issue with earlier Puppies or the ...

Thanks Beem, those settings are actually exactly what I had. I never had this slow mouse problem with older Puppy versions or with Wary. This seems to be a problem with Lupu where I cannot adjust the mouse using PupX or xset or xinput. Any change to values there are simply ignored. I tried a number ...

Slow mouse in Puppy 5 (solved)

I use a pointing stick (a.k.a. trackstick, trackpoint) rather than a touchpad and it is very heavy and sluggish in Puppy 5. The normal adjustments like with PupX or xset have no effect whatsoever. I am sure I read a proposed solution to this but I can't seem to find it. The suggestion was to downloa...

Just did a frugal install on a ext3 formated drive, boots fine but upon reboot it doesn't load the savefile(savefile is in folder named 300). The save file for a Puppy from this era needs to go in the root directory. As a bonus, it doesn't particularly care which disk or partition that root directo...

Wary From a technical viewpoint the main problem to achieving that objective appears to be the X-Org X server. Wary uses an older version of this - which came with the series 4 Puppies. Series 5 Puppies and Quirky come with a recent X-Org X server which does not work on older harware. Thanks for wa...

http://bkhome.org/quirky/ http://bkhome.org/wary/ I don't know, they just seem the same to me. Perhaps the differences under the hood are all that matters but I'd like to see some of the minor applications finally updated to better options. Those old minor apps might have been reasonable in Puppy 2...

What is the difference between Quirky and Wary?

I am afraid there are too many Puppies to choose from now. Obviously Lupu is a different breed but how do Quirky and Wary differ?

I just had a play with this. The kernel seems quite good, it is the first and only Puppy related offering that seems to handle the fan and everything else properly on my laptop. However, 1. The pfix=noram switch is broken in the init script. (I presume because it came from 4.2.1 where it is also bro...

I had the blue screen issue with Lucid and Quirky. Changing the colour depth in Xorg to 24 bit from 16 bit fixed it in my case.

Thanks Bruce. Your method is easier to implement. I have also got the noram switch working now. I'm not sure if it was meant to do it this way but using pfix=ram nullified the use of the noram switch in these newer Puppies even though I am sure it didn't when I used the 2 series Puppies. Now I am tr...

I don't know about teenpup, but normally if there isn't enough ram available, ram isn't used, but booting should be ok. I think that there is a bug in the newer Puppies because I struck the same problem the other day. I tried a 200+mb puplet with 256mb ram and it tried to load it to ram anyway. Any...

Thank you for the quick reply. I will put a different drive in it, this will allow me to try these older versions. The old versions were not designed to work with subfolders. If it's the same blue screen video issue that I was having with Puppy 5 series then it was not a matter of missing codec. The issue was resolved by simply configuring Xorg with 24 bit colour rather than 16 bit colour.
