Thanks. I did a text search last night for x-tahr and found:

/usr/lib/xfce4/panel/plugins/libwhiskermenu.so

I figured that was the one, but when I tried viewing it in a text editor, nothing was displayed. I'll install a hex editor tonight and have a look.

How can I change the name on the Whisker Menu?

Hi, I've recently installed X-Tahr Puppy and so far so good! One little thing that's bugging me though is I can't figure out how to change the name on the XFCE menu. I can change the icon, but not the name (see image). Any ideas how I can change this? Thanks. http://z-bang.net/puppy/whiskermenu.png

Thanks all. I tried your suggestions, but still a no go. I don't know why it doesn't seem to like sda2 so I guess I'll just leave it on sda1 as it works there.

moved it to root an tried

splashimage=(hd0,1)/splash.xpm.gz

No go.

I put the image in the puppy6.3.0frugal folder, the edited the line as:

splashimage=/puppy6.3.0frugal/splash.xpm.gz

Still no image at boot. Works fine on sda1 when I point to it there.

I'll have to play around with it some more when I get home. I'm missing something.

Thanks. I couldn't determine the path. I used the path as shown in the Rox title bar. I just decided to move it to the root of sda1 and point to it there and now it's displaying on boot. When you do a frugal install, is the path shown the actual path or a virtual path? How can I determine the actual...

Hi again, snallygaster. See if there's anything here that'll help. I'm considering trying this out myself, so I'd be interested to hear if it helps at all. Mike. :wink: Thanks. I got it to work by putting the file on the root of sda1. I just can't get it to work on sda2. I copy the path as shown in...

"Now; let me get this straight. sda1 is the small partition with the bootloader and 'menu.lst', etc., plus the Dell Diagnostics (which you want to keep), yes? You have Ubuntu 8.04 'Hardy Heron' on sda2? And you've installed Puppy.....where? sda3? (Is it a 'full' or a 'frugal' install?) Is it in...

Thanks everyone. The cat command did the trick! Now the issue is figuring out how to get Grub4DOS to boot puppy. I ran it again and told it leave the current MBR alone and it tells me I will need to set the BIOS or use a chainloader. Any ideas how to do this? I checked the BIOS settings and came up ...

Thanks, everyone. I found this which seems to verify that. "the grub4dosconfig v1.6.x leaves the backup file of the old MBR, like /mnt/sda1/sda_mbr.bak, 32kB size(not 512 bytes). Keep the file at the safe place. To recover the MBR, type the next command: Code: cat sda_mbr.bak > /dev/sda" h...

Thanks. I was reading this, but it does not seem to apply as I can find no /etc/grub.d/40_custom on the system.

Thanks. I'll have to check Gparted when I get home for the boot flag. The Grub menu shows options for Puppy and Ubuntu and I can boot into either. I was looking at the Ubuntu menu.lst files last night, there was no mention of sda1. It was never in the Grub menu, but could be accessed in the BIOS boo...

How can I restore the original MBR?

This system also Dell Diagnostics on a small partition sda1 The problem is when I installed Grub I put it on sda1 and now cannot access the Dell Diagnostics partition...
