I just have mine set up as a file server using LxPupXenial 16.08 with xampp. If I want to see or use as a desktop, I just run vnc. Most times I just use samba to connect to the storage drive. I use to use this. It ran well in wine. It doesn't have a calender persay but you can set an alarm to pop up with sound on the date you want.
I'm sure there's better but it served my purpose.

I use vivaldi so I'm not familiar with the actual chrome browser. I never really got it to work right on my rig.
