Been learning a lot about IDE and SATA drives. Specially a duo boot system of mac and win and linux. Here is what has been hapn'ing. Both hard drives recognize puppy, however what I have saved on the sata drive is not the puppy that is recognized on the windoz side. Windows does not recognize the sa...

A world of Hurt
We just put in a new motherboard and memory sticks. (ASUS P5QL-EM, 2Gmemory stick) I originally had 3 hard drives equaling 670G. My puppy is lost somewhere. The cd will boot but not anything that was saved. It no longer recognizes any ANY of the hard drives, only the cd rom, floppy disc drive and fl...

I don't think so. I just replaced the gutz in my computer (everything except the power pack). Put in an ASUS P5QL-EM, 2G memory, and everything disappeared except Windowz and Express gate which is placed on a flash drive. Supposedly it is a linux based system. Anyway: I lost ALL my puppy formating. ...

I got Scribus working, after 3 days, I found a missing dependancy. Now gimp does not work at all and of course I have never gotten the printer to work on puppy 4.0 It did once upon a time but that has changed. If I want to print use netflix or work on adobe premier I use windows. Yes I prefer puppy ...

Does anything in Linux ever work
I have been using different versions of Linux for several years now and I have come to the conclusion that nothing works. Puppy does not open the programs I download, knoppix does not save anything, pclinux and slackware completely disappear as does the others. If you fool with grub you loose your b...

The calendar does not open, geany does not open, gimp does not open, open office does not open, default text editor does not open, hmm what else.... no matter. When I cli...

Puppy 4 programs not opening
Most of the default programs are not opening, just a flash of light where there should be something. Geany, calculators, personal organizer, bluefish. The permissions are not checked and it states the extended attributes are not supported. Oh, and Firefox keeps crashing and I still can't get that bl...

How Puppy saved my Bootie
I make instructional films. I have 11 of them on a second hard drive. Since I never use this drive for anything except storage of these films I never thought it necessary to keep too many master copies. Well, last week I sold a weaving dvd and went to Img Burn to make a copy to send off. I kept gett...

Oh yeah, , , , Oh yeah, , , , Oh yeah, , , , , O yea.
I got the boot working right. Spent all day on it. You see we dumbies who do not know how to write the code don't know what the heck we are looking at in words, but pictures work. First I went to gparted. (only because I was going to partition a new drive and I noticed that my hda had the fat partit...

I guess my major confusion with grub is just what a mount point is. Duh. When you have three hard drives just where does it go? I can't say no to windows, the only programs I use on it are unobtanium in linux. Premere 6.5 and DVD Lab. Right now puppy is just a maintenance program to move files aroun...

Well as far as I am concerned I am having nothing but problems with grub. I just reinstalled wind blows for the 3rd time this week, the whole hard drive system has been changed around and now my monitor is flashing yellow to white like there is a loose connection. Happened in puppy too and its on a ...

Back to square one
Gosh am I learning a lot. I learned today not to remove the boot file from hda1. But then It wasn't working much anyway. Got kernel panic and tried puppy several more times before typing pfix=ram. that worked. At least I could get into puppy. What I got on a black screen was the word GRUB. I could n...

I bought one computer with XP installed. PS - I also discovered that every MS compatible third party application I wanted to keep use, can run in W98SE hosted by Linux on QEMU. I bought xp with it installed also, no install disc so no command console where I can type fixmbr. How did you get 98 (hos...
