I did get a Windows system to check the NTFS partitions: The Linux /home partition had no errors, another data partition (not mounted unless something is going to read/written) had undisclosed errors which chkdsk claims to have fixed. Upon rebooting Puppy, there was no ntfsmnterr#### file in /tmp. T...

ou boot from a CD install of Xenialpup. The save is on the computers hard drive. The hard drive partition, the save is on, is formatted NTFS. Is all this correct? Yes. In /tmp, I found bootkernel.log, bootsysinit.log, and udevtrace.log which have useful stuff, I am sure, but only if you know what t...

Xenial obviously has pfix=fsck compiled onto the CD. Does the stuff written on the screen during boot get saved anywhere, or is there an option to boot step-by-step, where one could see each step? In Windows, chkdsk usually caused more problems than it fixed if you used the "fix automatically&q...

No immediate crashes, but minor bugs in applications that other people don't see, and memory issues? over time. Will eventually hang if idled long enough. Intel website implies my "Centrino Duo" is not quite the same as "Celeron M" that Sysinfo reports. Inode errors are reported ...

Is there a kernel compatibility tool for Puppy?

Are there any diagnostic tools to verify/troubleshoot the choices made by Puppy boot loader as to kernel modules suitable for various CPU configs? Although a version loads and seems to work OK (Xenial7.5) when it reboots, inode errors are always found.

Verified that this works! With the special problem conditions, telnet ipecho.net 80 produces an error, but telnet 216.239.36.21 80 works, and with manual GET and HOST commands, provides the answer. But using your example getip.sh, and then " ./getip.sh | telnet | tail -1", I got a "Us...

Can you rebuild pmcputemp with the attached patch I tried to find a way to contact Michael Amadio, without success. If that was a traditional, binary patch, would Puppy have a means to incorporate it? Xenial 7.5 doesn't have a hex editor to look in binaries! pmcputemp.sh is some kind of shell scrip...

Any problems with pmcputemp?

When looking into excessive CPU & memory use by PaleMoon after being idle (with no IP connection) for 10+ hours, I found that Htop was also reporting 100+ MB usage for pmcputemp.

Haven't seen it since, but haven't let pmcputemp run all the time either.

Hey, Roberto, if you have the Xenial screen shown, you should be able to press F12 (function key 12) to bring up the Desktop Manager. Then 2 down arrows will show all the Setup programs. Then 1 right-arrow (because that is where the arrow is shown on the Manager list, even if the list of Setup progr...

What about not-always-on-top? If you have your full-screen window, and then start your program, does it have its regular window in front just like if you opened Geany or another standard window?

Thanks, musher. I looked and I don't have any xerrs.log file now. And I remember running dmesg before but now I can't remember the problem then. I had had good results before making simple rtf files with Abiword, and can't say that about LibreOffice. Will see what happens when I find that file again...

Hi, it is an wired mouse Roberto meant, it is not wireless; as newer laptop, it is surely touchpad. There is no install, it is boot from USB flashdrive using only RAM. May not have access to harddrive. Bigpup, I had suggested that Roberto try to borrow a USB mouse from a desktop. If the write to th...

Closing Abiword=crash? How to get debug info?

There has been a long-reported bug in Abiword where clicking "save", "save as" etc crashes, but those reports talk about error reports. With Abiword 3.0.1 included with Xenial (32bit) 7.5, bug causes only immediate exit, no error (and no saved or backup file). Any way to get more...

Roberto, when you boot from USB stick, you see the Xenial desktop screen with icons, correct? If not, a different problem. On a laptop, you have "touch pad" as "pointing device" instead of actual mouse like desktop. However, you could still borrow a USB external mouse, plugged in...

Thanks, that is very interesting. I don't have the described situation right now, so I could only try it on a fully-functioning IP connection. My MAN page for Telnet doesn't say anything about a GET command, so this works by sending each line as a Telnet packet, which is accepted as an http connecti...

What does Menu->Setup->Mouse/Keyboard Wizzard say? Sorry, I forgot that you cant access the menu without a mouse. When you get the first blue text screen at boot, use down-arrow key to select "without graphics", that will get you a command prompt. You might try the bottom entry "for ...

What does Menu->Setup->Mouse/Keyboard Wizzard say? If your mouse is USB, then you can use Console (icon on desktop), "lsusb" command (without quotes) to see if it is recognized. If your mouse is serial, then maybe Console command "lspci | more" will show it, I am not sure. The &q...
