why do you say that you can't use fat32? I've used it succesfully as well as ext3 although I've found that even with ext2IFS windows doesn't seem to want to read it.

actually, I have found that it *is* possible to do it with fat32 using puppy-2.12 and also with ext3 because I have just done it. The problem I had was formatting the usb flash drive with the gparted utility without setting the boot flag.
