That's a good idea. But since I have Puppy installed to my hard drive, I don't need to use pup_save files anymore.

Easy multi-user logins with Puppy?

I have Puppy Linux 2.13 installed via universal installer on a 20 gig hard drive with GRUB. It works just fine, but the thing is, I'm using a family computer that my mother and siblings use. They have trouble understanding Linux (coming from a lifetime Windows experience background). So, I was wonde...

Need help understanding Linux swap partitions.

I'm using Puppy 2.13, on a PC with 256 RAM. I increased the size of my personal storage (pup_save.2fs) to a gig, but I ran out of room. I don't have enough space to install the libraries I need for my compiled apps. People say to use a swap file, or swap partition to increase space. I used GParted t...

GTK+ Library Troubles; Compiling and Installing

I'm trying to compile the GTK+ library so I can run Nicotine or the PySoulSeek client. It says I must have glib 2.12 in order to compile GTK+. At first, I accidentally compiled glib 2. 10 instead of 2. 12 . So I downloaded 2.12 and compiled it. However, when I go back to ./configure GTK+, it stops, ...

Wine could be an option. It's a program designed to run Windows software in Linux. It's very limited though, and likely won't run Photoshop, but it's woth a try.

Probably Wine, Firefox, or LimeWire.

Anyway, I just tried to compile. I get the error 'no rule to make target "makefile". Stop.' I guess I am compiling wrong. I cd to the app's source, and type 'make makefile'. How should I be doing this?

I'm using Puppy Linux 2.13
256 MB of RAM
I'm using a swap file, 1 GB.

Thanks for those links, brad. I thought I already installed that file, but I guess not. I'll reboot, try to compile something, and report back with my results.

Many apps don't work at all; frequent lockups

There's a lot of apps that simply will not load for me when I try to run them. A few examples are Dosemu, ZSNES, and the alternative Puppy Software Installer. When I click on them from Menu -> DotPups, absolutely nothing happens. Why is this? I should also note that I can get Azureus to run, but aft...

Did exactly what you said... Ran chkdsk, and I even defragmented in Windows. This time I got a read box saying this, after I mounted my hard drive in Linux: The ntfs-3g driver was able to mount the NTFS partition but returned this error message: WARNING: Dirty volume mount was forced by the 'force' ...

Why is my free RAM space so low?

I'm using Puppy off of a Live multisession DVD. When I first started using multisession, I was seeing 121 MB of free space in my RAM usage in the corner down there. I rebooted, and now it shrunk to 45. Shouldn't it be much higher, since I'm using a 4.7 GB DVD+R for storage and sessions? When I try t...

Here's a little update... When I just booted up Linux a bit ago, there was a line saying Puppy was currently using my pup_save.2fs file. I thought it was going to run fine from that point. Then, a few lines later, it said my pup_save was corrupt and could not be loaded. It also said it couldn't find...

Puppy won't load my pup_save file

The first time I shut down puppy, it didn't save a pup_save.2fs file at all. I told it to save it to my hard drive on my main C partition, which is where I have Windows installed, and I just got a bunch of error messages saying the operation could not be completed, etc. Later, I mounted my hard driv...

Gxine Video Playback Troubles

I've been using gxine 0.5.9 to play my videos in. So far, every .mpg video I've played has run flawlessly. However, in other formats such as .avi, the video is more jumpy and very distored. I tried playing Advent children, and half of the image was covered in a vertical pink bar. The other half was ...

Thanks for all the advice. I've got a Compaq, so it was F10 I should've been pressing. I change the BIOS options and everything booted up smoothly. I'm on Puppy Linux right now, and it's great. :D

Can't boot Puppy from a DVD+R

First, let me say that this is my first experience with Linux. I chose Puppy Linux because of my PC's poor hardware. My DVD burner has been screwy lately (and I've only owned it for a week...). It won't recognize any of my CD-Rs, but only my Memorex DVD+Rs. I burned the Puppy Linux iso to a DVD. The...
