Re: PUI Issue/Problem

Every attempt led to 'No Operating System'. That sounds like you haven't installed a boot loader. Run Grub4Dos Bootloader Config. Make sure that you pick your flash drive, not your main hard drive as the target device. Thanks. I've never had to do that before, but will give it a try. Thanks. That w...

PUI Issues

Which Puppy are you using to the PUI on? ie. are you using- Precise 5.4.1 to Install Precise 5.4.1 to USB flash drive Precise 5.5 to Install Precise 5.5 to USB flash drive I booted from a live CD each time: 5.4.1 or 5.5 When you partitioned the USB did you flag it as bootable, and your BIOS is set ...

PUI Issue/Problem

I have tried using PUI to install Precise Puppy to a USB Flash drive but without success. Every attempt led to 'No Operating System'. I've tried FAT16, FAT32, EXT2, EXT3 and EXT4 partitions but all are the same. It's an HP Pavilion DM1 which boots quite happily from EXT2 into Lucid Puppy and to Fatd...

Lupu on HP Netbook: wireless fails every other boot

Very strange this one: first time boot works fine - configure wireless networking OK, save and exit. Next boot - no networking; reboot and it's back. This is a persistent problem. On the "off" cycle the Connect Wizard fails to find any wireless to connect to, but it comes up fine next time...

Package Manager

This is "Seriously Good Stuff". To take it to the next level of can't-do-without-ableness what's needed is a concept of the baseline. This represents the starting point for a given version (e,g, 3.01, 4.3) i.e. what objects were in it and at what version. What that gives you (and me, and e...

What really peeved me was that at no stage did Ubuntu: -warn me -ask for my permission -give me information about what it was doing -tell what it had done afterwards -allow me to change what it had done Recent releases of Ubuntu do ask you what to do during an Update if they wish to change menu.lst...

You could try sending a PM to forum member 'caneri'. I believe he maintains (and funds, so please be polite) puppylinux.ca.

Re: Hello

Though it did give me some points to ponder. Namely, what is the real difference between a "christian" distro and a regular version of the same distro? Such a sound question deserves an unsound answer: there is none. Sure it might have some content with a particular slant, but beyond that...

Ahem....... we seem to have gone a long way off topic. Is the issue of package management exhausted? There seems to be general consent that Slitaz (among others) has better package management but wild disagreement about whether it's worth emulating. Is this really the end of the discussion? I really...

I know it's corny but I like the suggestion "If you see someone without a smile then give them one of yours." :)

"Yes, we love freedom" and "Yes, we want someone to impose order". We'd like someone to create order, but not impose it. Order should be optional to protect the interests of those that prefer chaos. :D That's a fair cop. Available but optional seems like a good stance. Any volun...

As ever we are a morass of contradictions. "Yes, we love freedom" and "Yes, we want someone to impose order". It's wonderful that Puppy has so many flavours and possibilities, and it's infuriating how hard it can be to find things. If I recall Ubuntu correctly it gives you the op...

Nic2109 Pwidgets wiki needs to be updated. I maintain it so will find time over Christmas season to do so. Many widgets in this thread are only good for pwidgets less than version 2.2.x The individuals who created them need to update them, me included. Version 2.2.x saw a major reshuffle of the dat...

Renamed to WiFi pet. Change parameters if you require a fast connection report whilst roaming. For other use such as just checking local signal strength this version is much better. Changes: Frequency changed to Channel, more meaningful. Some processes timing made longer, less Cpu load. It is now 2...

Sorry to be dim but how do new widgets get to be available to be selected? I've downloaded and installed a couple of .pet packages with widgets that interest me and I was expecting them to then appear in the list of widgets I could choose. But they don't. What step(s) have I omitted? I tried the Hel...

Video Resolution

Hello everyone. Just a quick note to congratulate the dpup team. This is the first ever Puppy (well, since 2.11 when I started trying them all out) that has displayed on my laptop at the correct resolution of 1440 x 900 straight out of the box. :D I've always has to install one of the Catalyst drive...

Network Wizard in Karmic

The Network wizard reports that it doesn't find any network interfaces. As it normally finds both eth0 and wlan0 without failing this is new and a complete mystery.

Any ideas anyone?
