Sigmund, I totally agree with excluding /initrd to avoid double hits. I've done a bunch of tests and I think this is an anomaly with my system. I've just tried it on my older computer and everything works as it should. I'm on a Dell Latitude D610 running Puppy 4.3.1, from the CD and the save files, ...

Pfind searching hard drive
I don't know if this is new in 4.3 or if I just noticed it. I was puzzled that Pfind couldn't find a file I knew was on my hard drive, so I went into the advanced options, and saw that /mnt is not included in the "Search in" field, and /initrd is specifically excluded. I'd like to change t...

SeaMonkey cookies not saved - fixed with fsck
Yesterday I forgot to plug my laptop in, and the battery ran out. When I restarted it, suddenly automatic sign-in wasn't working on any site. The cookie settings looked fine. But then when I closed and restarted SeaMonkey, and used the cookie manager to look at the stored cookies, there were none! I...

CDW maxed out the CPU then froze. (Solved)
I was trying to use CDW to burn an audio CD, and it maxed out the CPU meter and froze (but did not freeze the system). So I killed it, opened it again, clicked the log tab, and saw this error: ******* WARNING: the deprecated pseudo SCSI syntax found as device specification. Support for that may ceas...

How to convert ogg to wav ? (Solved)
In Puppy 4.2.1, I'm trying to convert some ogg files to wav files through pawdioconverter, and I get an error: "sox: command not found". When I go into the console and type "sox", i get the same error. :( Is this a feature or a bug? Is sox supposed to be built into puppy? If not,...

Just letting everyone know that I had exactly the same problem as Barry, and my laptop is only 5 years old and has 512Mb RAM. I easily fixed it by manually copying pup_421.sfs from the CD to the hard drive. But it's strange that all the other times I've upgraded, Puppy put the new sfs on the hard dr...

How to burn mp3 files to a CD that will play in my stereo?
What I need to do is burn mp3 files onto a CD that will play in a normal stereo. I've done this before with Puppy by putting them all in one directory, using the Soxgui audio format converter to turn them to wav files, and then burning them with Gcombust. This time I decided to try Graveman, which (...
