Greetings from the Outer Banks....
Yup, greetings from the Outer Banks (in NC for those who aren't aware). One of my cousin's whom I rarely get to see had her wedding this past weekend so we are here for that as well as some much needed R&R. And of course I brought my trusty ol Puppy laptop which I am typing this message on now. ...

Interesting that it states my laptop's max supported memory was only 128MB...I saw a full spec sheet of my laptop somewhere else on the net and it said it'd support up to 256. Guess it's some of the later models of the CPi series. The price isn't bad, I can just buy an additional 64MB stick and be s...

Calling all Dell Latitude CPi laptop owners....
I know there's a few of you all on here but I was wondering if you all had any suggestions on finding memory for this thing. I only have 64MB in mine now and I have been trying a few times to get it upgraded to 256MB. I went through 2 ebay auctions and have had no success. First time the memory was ...

Yeah, most of my old PCs I get for free....you can build decent gaming rigs for pretty cheap, I know that. But since the article mainly focuses on general uses, you can easily obtain a free machine or an older low cost one assuming you know where to look. Although from my experiences, RAM tends to b...

frequency of Puppy releases/versions
First off, I absolutely enjoy using Puppy Linux and I think it's the best distro I have tried for my older computers. But I do have one thing I'd like to voice my opinion on. I think Puppy Linux versions come out wayyyyyyyy too frequently. I know very few Linux distros that offer new versions so soo...

update part 2....
Well I managed to get it going on my laptop....sorry for the previous response, my patience was a little thin that day. I ended up using the ide=nodma option at boot time before I was able to get anywhere with the installation. I have never had to do that before in previous versions of puppy. The on...

I am guessing that the differences are partially hardware-specific because the newer versions are accessing new hardware and are running more sophisticated apps. I have used most of the MS-like Linux distros with all of their code-bloat and saw the same sort of occasional upgrade anomalies. The goo...

I downloaded 2.16 today to try it out and didn't make it very far. It made it through the first few steps in the boot process on the CD and then it crashes telling me it can't find my CD or something to that effect. I don't remember the exact error but that's basically what it said. CD is good and c...

Yeah, now that it has been mentioned I think there may be some other issue going on here...like disabling USB for example. I have 2 Puppy machines: a 200Mhz Pentium and a 266mhz Pentium II, both sporting 64MB RAM, and to me the speed is just fine. Now they are not blazing fast (as some more RAM woul...

Separating Puppy's system files from user files....
I just had a little bit of a brainstorm on this so I am looking for a little bit of advice/recommendations before I commit to this. Since the release cycle of Puppy is pretty quick, I am starting to find it just a tad annoying to backup my files to the my server before installing a newer version of ...

A personal thank you to Barry....
Yeah I know I technically could send a message to the fellow, but I figured to make this public for all to see. I just wanted to say thanks to Barry for creating such a perfect little distribution, especially at this time in my life. I currently have been low on money and can not afford to purchase ...

Thanks for the info Nym1 it will definitely come in handy. Unfortunately, just about every one of those modules is loaded for my bcm card already. All except the WPA modules but I haven't been around any WPA encrypted networks yet. But still thanks for the info as I'll keep it in mind next time I do...
