OK the difference between "personal storage" and the "save-file" does make more sense. However if I'm the only person using the computer - and I don't plan to have multiple linux setups either - does it make sense for me to never create a "save-file"? So far it seems to...

Yea I may try to change the blue box this weekend - I'll check out some directions online to see how complicated it looks. I don't know why but I just HATE the blue screen (maybe it reminds me of bad blue screens (when things go very, very wrong). Maybe I can at least just change the color to green ...

As a non-geek newbie I found linux to be a bit overwhelming at first but it gradually started to make sense (especially with all of the "how to's" and forum support available). I almost gave up at the beginning because I was confused about all the different variations of linux - it just fe...

YIPEEEE!!! Problem solved! Its now working great, boots nicely from the hard drive (no USB needed), AND i now have plenty of "personal storage space" (140GB). Aside from the partition issue, I think one of the things I kept doing incorrectly was creating a save-file before the first reboot...

ok so I started over again, created ONE partition, did a FULL install of puppy precise on that partition. Now my menu.lst file seems to look more like its supposed to (I think). I just changed the timeout to 2 instead of 10 (I can put it to 0 if I want to right?) This is what it looks like now # men...

Ok THANKS! I'm going to try these things and let you guys know how it works out. Makes a lot more sense now - By the way these are the directions I originally used - "how to install linux as your ONLY operating system. http://www.aztcs.org/meeting_notes/linuxsig/puppylinux/puppylinux-install.pd...

after I did everything and installed grub4dos - my menu.lst looks like this. I haven't altered it this time but I remember a box did appear earlier and asked me to paste some text into the menu - unfortunately I closed the window and now I can't find that info again # menu.lst produced by grub4dosco...

OK that is working well. However when I reboot it asks me if I want to save my session - I'll be the only user so should I click "yes" or "no"?

ok well I just did a superfloppy FULL install (to see what it would do) and it seems that it was a bad idea. It wiped out MBR (whatever the heck that is). I remember seeing a warning on it next to the superfloppy option. Now when I run grub4dos it asks me where I want to install the boot loader but ...

OK I think it makes sense. SO I've rebooted it with the usb flash drive and it's working quite well (no annoying boot screen at the beginning either). I wiped all the partitions and then am about to do an install on to the hard drive (I don't want to always have to boot with the usb). ALready I can ...

Thanks for replying, to answer your questions - I didn't mess with the fstab file. To install I did use the menu / setup / puppy universal installer (not sure if Barry's is a different one). You might be right about the frugal instal (I've actually installed and uninstalled it so many times (sometim...

2 questions - related to partitions and boot up (Solved)

I have two questions - but first a bit of background. Puppy Version: Precise 5.7.1 Hardware: Acer Aspire One ZG5 Netbook 1GB RAM and 120GB hard drive This netbook had no OS on it so I booted it with a USB flash drive and did a FULL install + Grub (and Grub4dos). After 3 days of trial and error + try...
