Thanks for your suggestion. I have a new hard disk arriving in a few days, and then I'll try to modify this for Puppy 4.0. Actually, I should probably go ahead and upgrade the whole rig to 4.12

Proper procedure to install .pet package from command

I'm setting up a Puppy-based file and print server on a VIA EPIA 800 board. (the only modern distribution that would boot on the VIA C3) After doing a lot to convert it to a multi-user system with sshd and to operate as I need it to without a GUI, I can't find a recommended procedure for installing ...

Hello and thanks for your reply. I will reset my ramdisk size to 13312, since I still don't know if it is detrimental to set it larger.

Best,

Re: wlan-ng

Hi all, I've been trying to get the linux-wlan-ng drivers to recognize my D-Link DWL-650 revP. I use the same driver package and version with success in VectorLinux so I know it is possible. For the record, I've now managed to get this working with a "poor man's install" (i.e. kernel, imag...

wlan-ng

Hi All, I've been trying to get the linux-wlan-ng drivers to recognize my D-Link DWL-650 revP. I use the same driver package and version with success in VectorLinux so I know it is possible. I had spent some time trying to build the drivers myself before stumbling onto these packages and I must say ...

Persistence and editing of /etc/modules.conf

Hi all, I'm thoroughly stymied by this. I run Puppy 1.0.5 (Chubby) from HD by booting it from FreeDos, copying image.gz, vmlinuz, usr_cram.fs, rather than the full HD install. I need to add one alias to /etc/modules.conf to get my wireless card (which doesn't work with the normal wireless tools) rec...

Chubby boot2pup ramdisk size - Partially solved

Hi again, So I seem to have solved the booting problem just by appending ramdisk_size=65536 to the boot2pup autoexec.bat, but I would still like some advice on the correct ramdisk_size to use. I have read the information on http://www.goosee.com/puppy/flash-puppy.htm and on http://www.goosee.com/pup...

Loading Chubby 1.0.5 with boot2pup/wakepup - Ramdisk size

Hi All, I'm trying to get running with Chubby Puppy 1.0.5 by either floppy booting or loading tiny.exe to HD and booting from LILO, as I've been able to do in the past. However, image.gz in Chubby 1.0.5 seems to exceed the ramdisk size set up by tiny.exe. I get: RAMDISK: ext2 filesystem found at blo...

Are you booting directly from CD? Are you booting using Floppy? Can you load any other OS? Do you have relevant data in your HDD, or can it be wipped out? The laptop CDROM doesn't work, so I'm booting from floppy. I can't boot USB. The hard drive is empty, with ext3 partitions and a swap. No data o...

The HDD is currently empty. It contains a swap and a couple of linux ext3 paritions, no data. I have tried to mount the external USB cdrom so that I can mount or copy usr_cram.fs, but the trouble is I can't figure out which device it is supposed to be. Any guesses? Only then can I copy usr_cram.fs <...

Thanks for your reply. I've been less concerned about getting usr_cram.fs to load, since I had a functioning command line. If I am to get it to boot though, I need to be able to mount the external CDROM to copy usr_cram.fs onto the ext3 partition with pupxxx. Any idea which device I should be trying...

Network utils available without X?

Greetings, Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I've not found anything in the archives. I'm trying to setup a system with no working CDROM, no BIOS network boot, or USB boot. I have been able to boot Puppy from floppy to an external USB CDROM, but not with an X server. (Can't load usr_c...

Go for a DWL-G630 for pcmcia or DWL-G510 pci both DLink products and well supported by madwifi Thanks for the advice. wlan-ng / dedicated driver support

Thanks for attempting such a project, bladehunter. Are you putting together various dedicated Linux drivers, or just ndiswrapper? ndiswrapper is considered the 2nd option after a dedicated driver, but it's the ONLY option for some chipsets, such as Broadcom. I have read that ndiswrapper works for m...
